Soriano actually looks very good this year here in DC. I've always been fairly critical of him b/c of his poor plate discipline, and then again b/c of the LF/2B fiasco, but he does look good this year. The fans in Washington are really taking to him. He plays hard with energy and he's hitting well. He's simply a much better hitter than JJones.

Soriano's line of .286/.336/.526 is not all that impressive. He has always been, and will always be, an OBP liability. He does offer plus power for a 2B. As a corner OF, not so much. Jones hurts this team, but Jones/Soriano is better than Theriot-Hairston/Soriano. I'd love to replace Jones, but doing so with weak hitters isn't going to help the team.

His slugging would be nearly 100 points above anyone currently playing on the cubs. Sure the cubs need more walks, but they need more extra base hits too. They need a third power hitter.

Btw giles isn't exactly tearing it up with his .357 slugging %. the cubs have enough guys who rarely hit the ball out of the park.

While you're looking up stats, why don't you check his OBP?

OBP is about the ONLY thing right now, Giles is good for. With his OBP hovering around .400 he SHOULD have more then 17 runs (in 31 games). Now you can't fault him for ONLY scoring 17 runs, you can fault those guys hitting behind him, but the proof is in the pudding. That OBP is an empty .400. At this stage of his career, if he can't slug around .450, then Giles should be a 2 hitter in the lineup. And for slightly under $8 mill per, Giles is so overpaid.

Dare I say...Giles would have a BIGGER impact with St. Louis then he would in San Diego.

An empty .400? He's in an offense that has been terrible, he's the only one with an OBP over .340. And that 17 figure is second on the team to Barfield's 18.

Also, Giles' 3 year splits('03-'05) for April: .221/.372/.405/.777

That WHY I said you could blame the guys BEHIND Giles in the lineup. But it is still an "empty" .400, regardless.

To me, Soriano is a patch. He's not a difference maker. He's also in a 1 year contract. How much do you want to give up for a guy who could be gone at the end of this year? Can his bat (and his bat alone) be enough to turn this organization around? Personally, I don't think so.

He's not even a patch. You put a free swinger like Soriano on a team where the manager's best hitting advice is "be aggressive" and you can watch his OBP drop like a stone and his K-rate increase exponetially.

Bradley - Colleti didn't want to deal w/ the Cubs and what stud prospect you giving up for him?

Wow, you have some pretty good inside knowledge there. Bradley plus another prospect (Antonio Perez) were traded for a player from the Texas League (Ethier). I have a hard time believe the Cubs couldn't top or equal that.

FYI, Andre Ethier is drawing comparisons to our own Felix Pie, from John Sickels

The Cubs could equal that.

Does Pie for Bradley and Antonio Perez interest you?
