sounds like barrett didn't take it too seriously:

"Yeah, we went through a little of that. We've got 'em fooled now."

Did Baker think the brewers would think he just decided to start blanco again?

Per Cubs.com

Cubs manager Dusty Baker wasn't too happy that Barrett revealed his injury. The Cubs are shorthanded in terms of bench players, because they are carrying 12 pitchers.

"I honestly wish he hadn't said anything, because then [the other teams] know," Baker said. "I spoke to Michael about it. He said, 'Man, I didn't think.' I showed him a couple books I had about strategy and the war. He said, 'I've got that book.' I said, 'Maybe you need to read it.' "

Barrett was spotted with his left hand wrapped in ice after Tuesday's game, which is how his injury was revealed.

This is Dusty Baker though. I wouldn't put it past him to start Blanco two days in a row for no apparent reason. However, this was a Maddux game, so maybe they would just think Maddux prefers Blanco. I agree with Dusty here.

Wow, another thread questioning Dusty's every utterance.

I think this is legit. It's absurd to hide an injury to "bluff".

I don't have a problem with Baker doing this! What is wrong with it? It is not an injury that requires a stay on the DL so what is wrong with trying to keep it away from other teams?

Now if it were an injury that required a stay on the DL, then I would hope that the Cubs would come out with the true information.

Under the situation with no DL stay, I would hope that they would try to keep an injury in house and not let other teams know about it. It would really suck if because of hand injury to one of the Cubs players he could not get around on the inside fastball as well and the other teams found out about it. I say keep the minor injurys in house and don't let other teams know about it.....

what were the brewers going to do differently? This is just over-managing. And why would cub fans discuss the cubs and their manager? Weird stuff.

Let's say the Cubs put Barrett on deck as a pinch hitter with a lefty on the mound. We could force them to bring in a righty to face Mabry.

So the Cubs should let everyone know about every injury that doesn't require a dl stint and if so why?

On second thought I don't think it is over managing as much as it is over critiquing.

if you aren't interested in discussing the issue but only what other people want to discuss, don't read the thread. very simple. I don't really care if the cubs announce it or not. To start talking about war strategy is silly.

I'm interested in dicussing the issue - I'm still wondering why it is absurd to hide an injury.

and the cubs couldn't have done that why?

what was there to hide? do you not think the brewers knew that he hurt his finger and may not be available today? i think if i knew it, i'm guessing the brewers did too.

If they knew Barrett was hurt, they would just assume it was a decoy and ignore it at least until he faced a pitch.

I don't know that its absurd to hide it - making a spectacle of not hiding it is a bit overboard though.

A spectacle?? Baker was asked a question - he answered it. Baker is going to say some wacky things just like Zambrano is going to do some wacky things. I don't understand what all the hoopla is about everytime Baker says something a little goofy(ie. get the skunk out of the boat).

you don't think the brewers had it figured out? see abucks post above.
