This question has probably been asked before, but for the longest time I've been looking for a digital copy of the WGN radio Cubs theme song (Everybody Loves the Cubs...). Does anyone know where I can find a streaming copy or a downloadable copy of the song? Thanks.

Yes, but they would have to pay royalties to the estate of Steve Goodman for the use of that song. Why not just get some in-house producer to come up with crap year after year. :)

They do play that song at Wrigley when the Cubs win.

Those songs are so cheesy. What the heck are these lyrics:

"Cub-Cubbie-Cubbies/

Everybody loves the Chicago Cubs"

Thats so cheesy and makes us out to look cute and adorable.

There's another one that wasn't bad....I can't remember the whole thing but it ended something like "let's get ready to go on seven-two-oh, double-uuuu...geeeeee..eeennnnnnn, that's right, W-G-N!"

I remember not totally hating that one.

Anyone remember this one...

Let's go...

Batter up...

We're taking the afternoon off...

It's a beautiful day for a ballgame

For a ballgame today

The fans are out to get a ticket or two

From Walla Walla, Washington to Kalamazoo

It's a beautiful day for a home run

But even a triple's okay

We're gonna cheer

And boo

And raise a hallabaloo

At the ballgame, today!

It's amazing how the lyrics have stuck with me after all these years.

Yes, me too. They should bring that back. And if the Cubs do well this year the Hey! Hey! Holy Mackeral tune.

I remember that as the opening song on WGN radio back in the early 70s.

It dates back all the way to the 50's.

I didn't realize it went that far back. I started following the Cubs on TV in 1969; it was the early 70s when I started listening to some of the games on radio (mainly the west coast games, listening with my old-fashioned battery operated transistor radio with ear plug when I was supposed to be asleep).

And of course you laid your ear with the earpiece down on the pillow and carefully tucked the cord to the earpiece undernaeth you so that if you fell asleep your mother wouldn't see it when she came in to wake you up in the morning. Right ?

Actually, by that time I was old enough that I always got myself up in the morning. It was my father that I was more worried about finding out.

My brother did the same thing, so neither of us had to worry about the other telling.

Yes, like the song said.... "I saw it all on my transistor radio." Good times.
