This blog has reported accurate, breaking news in the past ahead of many other sports sites, including Chicagosports and ESPN.

When it became obvious that the news wasn't being reported anywhere else, this blog updated its information to say that it was initially heard over a radio report, and that as time went on, it appeared more and more to be merely a rumor.

This blog's co-owner is entirely happy to be wrong in this case. Zach Day would not be a good claim for the Cubs.

Yep...did a good job of updating/correcting info after the fact. I don't have any issues with the blog.

Yeah, i kind of agree. I wonder if the Cubs had tried to get in on Guillermo Quiroz when he was available.

Couldn't they have reported it accurately from the start?

We can only report the things we hear, sir. While the radio stations aren't always accurate, I tend to trust their "news" enough to report something if I hear it from them.

I will not feel vindicated if the Cubs actually wind up nabbing Day, should his appeal against waivers fail. It would be a bad move.

I'm co-founder and a writer there, and the person responsible for the errant report. Actually, I came up with the premise for the site on these message boards back in November of 2004, and also the inspiration for this:

Single-source reporting.

You'll get news about as reliable as you would expect.

Dual, actually. I also saw something about it on a message board, but I don't trust message boards enough to cite them as sources, or to make news reports based on what they say. No offense.

Wow that's a new record for avatars.

::whistles innocently::

Some forums have automatic presets for avatars, some don't. My bad.

Yeah but the thing is I had ESPN 1000 on for most of the morning and didnt hear Zach Day's name once. Granted there is a chance I could have missed it but I did not hear anything about Zach Day at all...

Probably the best thing for Day as he's had past success with them (while they were the Spos.) Don't know if it's still the same pitching coach, but there should at least be some familiarity for him.

Day hasnt been the same since he hurt his arm and got busted for fixing the baseball. Hate to say it, but i think you can stick a fork in him.

So you're saying, "the Day is done"?
