I remember the Cubs winning 3 out of 4 at Shea. The Cubs dropped game one of the series and the Mets fans were calling for a sweep.

Thad Bosley contributing what seemed like a lot of PH

Steve Stone Drinking a Budweiser and Harry Caray smoking a cigar after the Cubs clinched.

That time that Larry Bowa got a hit.

I know it's hard to believe. I even looked it up to make sure but Larry Bowa did get a hit in 1984.

I musta missed that game. I do remember Stoney with the Bud and Harry with the cigar. To me, that seemed like a sure sign of the apocalypse. Thad Bosley: now there's somebody who overachieved in a Cubs uniform.

From memory the 1984 Cubs

Bob Dernier- had a career year

Ryne Sandberg- came 1 HR and 2 triples short of 20 HRs/ 20 doubles/ 20 Triples

Gary Matthews- his last days in the sun

Keith Czonk Moreland- and we complained about Sosa's defense

Leon Durham

Ron Cey

Jody Davis- catcher without a peer (though I thought it was beer which is a lot funnier)

Larry Bowa- and we call Pierre a slap hitter

Henry Cotto

Jay Johnstone

"Young" Dave Owen

Steve Lake

Richie "The Hacker" Hebner

Thad Bosley

Ron Hassey for about 5 minutes

Davey Lopes for about 10 minutes

Suttcliffe, Eckersley, Trout, Sanderson (can't remember the 5th starter, he was #44 Dave something)

Lee Smith

Tim Stoddard

George Frazier

Warren Brusstar

Can't remember the last guy out of the pen.

Chuck Rainey, Rick Rueschel, Dickie Noles?

I believe it was Dick Ruthven who was the other starter. And an obscure guy by the name of Rich Bordi, who I only remember because I have his autograph.

I think I may have the other Rich Bordi autograph

I remember being depressed after game 1 of that Mets series. I think it put us 3.5 or 4.5 back. But we swept the DH on Saturday and won on Sunday.

..blowing off class to watch game 1 vs. the Padres was a great, (yet short) memory.

That's because Bowa was just a slap swinger.

Matthews didn't need anymore days in the sun. He's darker than Charlie Murphy.

Are you talking about that triple he hit at Wrigley against the Pirates? I think he came home then on a throwing error and flipped off the Pirates bench or one of the players, am I right?

Couple of others:

That quartet of Gary Woods, Sut, and I forget who else, recording that song. Hilarious.

Hary and his Cub fan, Bud man video.

that classic double header sweep of the Mets at Wrigley.

During the victory celebration in Pittsburgh, Harry is puffing on that cigar and he throws it down and yanks the Bud out of Stoney's hand and starts chugging it.

Lee Smith, when getting doused with champagne: "Oh man, not in the 'fro!"

I think too that was the year that a ball bounced crazily off of someone to turn into a game ending double play and Harry shouts: "The Good Lord wants the Cubs to win!" Classic.

Ruthven actually had more starts than Sutcliffe (of course, the Cubs only had Sutcliffe for about half the year). Rainey (16) and Reuschel (14) also were fairly regular starters. Bordi pitched in 31 games, but only 7 were starts.
