I've never been one to try to rile up Card fans   but evidently the actions of some of the Busch bleacher fans are (at best) no better than the actions of some of the Cubs fans in the Wrigley bleachers.

Vance - I think it's a good thing you won't be in the bleachers this weekend. The natives will be out for blood - especially after last weekend's sweep.

I agree..... it's stupid, and something I'm not proud of.

I hope it's just bandwagoners there (not real fans) to see the new stadium.

That's surprising.

At the old Busch the left field bleachers were some of the most heavily self-policed areas I'd ever been. Until recently I had a "friend with benefits" in St. Louis. Of course there was the primary benefit, but a second benefit was that her brother had season tickets in the left field bleachers and we often went to games there.

In the left field bleachers (they have assigned seating) there was a large group of regulars who kept a list of rules and expected a certain sense of class and behavior. They even printed rules and would regularily hand them out. As anoying and they sound: it made baseball more enjoyable.

Some of the rules I remember:

No cell phones: leave the seating area to make/receive calls.

Always tip beer vendors.

Heckle, but no foul language.

Fans from opposing teams should be treated with respect.

Try to enter and exit between innings

Right field bleachers suck.

Do nothing to disrupt the game: visiting team homerun balls should not be thrown back.

Report all issues to the ushers immediately.

As bad as a lot of bleacher areas can get, I would have no problem taken my mom to a game at the old Busch bleachers.

I'm sitting in the bleachers on Monday. We'll see how that goes.

Every team has it's fair share of idiots in the stands. And if I caught a ball, I would NOT throw it back.

And Jim Edmonds hit a HR in the 2nd inning.

Enforcement is the key. If automtic ejections are handed out regularly for such behaviour, it will be minimized. If it is allowed to continue, it will only get worse, IMO.

No bleachers for me. The luxury of Redbird Club access and seats in section 249 for Friday, the Ozzie Smith party room on Saturday, and back to Redbird club access and sec 250 for Sunday. I'll be in my Cubs attire and rooting them to victory, so I'll report back on how well I'm received by the "Best Fans in Baseball."

Last time I was there (all decked out in Cubs gear), I was treated to chants of "1908", "wait 'til next year", etc., etc....

I ignored them all, and it did test my patience. However, to retaliate would only encourage them and draw more blather. Besides, I would look just as moronic as they do if I did that. 8)

It's only moronic if you're outnumbered. :D

It's interesting.

I hear more Cub fans talk about the "Best Fans in Baseball" thing more than anyone.

well, exept Al Hrabosky...

Most "good" Cards fans I know pay no attention to it. I've said it before, every team has the best fans. There are fans for every team that deserve that moniker.

Yeah, I've always thought that if you feel the need to always tell everyone how great of a fan you are, you're just seeking confirmation of the same.

Truly good fans don't really care about that stuff.

It's all about the game, if you ask me.

Yeah, I've heard it a lot more here than in most places.

It's similar to Detroit and "Hockeytown".

St. Louis is a GREAT baseball town, maybe the best...but the "Best Fans in Baseball" thing is probably over the top.

Then you have an idiot Cardinal fan or three...(or a prick)...who act like fools and then you have people saying, "Best fans in baseball??? Yeah right."

Bleh. Like ManEatingTarp said...the good Cardinal fans don't pay attention to that label.

I agree with almost everything you say, especially the first paragraph. However, I DO find myself caring if Cardinal fans boo their own players, because I think they should be better than that. I don't like it.

But yeah, "best fans" is a bit over the top.

I can't stand that...., and the Packers' fans referring to Green Bay as "Titletown, USA".

Enough with the "Edmonds is a prick" discussion. Seriously. Stop it. Everyone.

This goes for all threads...not just this one.

There are at least two billboards in StL that say "You're in the home of baseball's best fans" or something like that. They're for FOX. I crack up every time see them. So lame.

There is one inside the stadium too...just in case anyone at the game forgot.

Yeah, there are billboards here that say Miller Lite is "Chicago's Beer"

Putting it in print don't make it true.
