I'm not sure I would want Cuban specifically, but I would like to see new ownership.

I still can't believe the Trib would ever let the Cubs go. When it happens, then I'll believe it. It's been too long.......hard to conceive of the Cubbies without the Trib.

If Cuban isn't manly enough to make big financial decisions like this without his wife then how can we count on him to instill the mental toughness needed to win in baseball.

If his business decision would mean she gets half of his estate in a divorce settlement, he may just want to think about that a little harder. :D

It's a marriage, not a dictatorship.

Actually marriages are dictatorships, it's just the female who gets to be the dictator.

Im just saying hes a smart owner and will know what the team needs to win. If we have to overpay for someone that will help the team I think he would do it.

I'm personally pretty happy that Hendry didn't overpay for Furcal and stayed with Cedeno.

agreed. we have enough overrated leadoff men (1) on this team.

What's Cuban supposed to say? "Look here, woman, shut yer hole, I'm buying the Cubs. Don't you sass me! Go sleep on the couch. GIT!!"

How long has he been married? He'd be pretty silly to not have a prenup. Just for the record, I asked my wife for her take and her response was: "Honey, if you had his money, you could buy whatever you want. Lord knows I'd be doing the same."

Not that that would be bad, I bet their couch is worth more than my car.

Let him put up advertising at Wrigley. I want a winner more than I want a cuddly ball park..

If every cent of advertising money went to the team, I wouldn't be so opposed to it, but I really enjoy the game less when I have to stare at tractor supply ads posted on the outfield walls. Besides, how much of the new profits being made frm the ads already in place, the higher ticket prices, and the new bleacher seats are really being put righ back into the team?

I'm not against new ownership, including Cuban, but I don't want to see Wrigley Field turned into a giant billboard.

Or better yet, just hire better personnel. These last few years have proven we can have a winning ball club without turning Wrigley into Jumbotron-land as long as we hire the right people.

I do believe that there has been talk of Cuban interested in buying the Cubs in the past as well. I'd love to see what he could do with this organization, the only thing I'd worry about is if he'd try to modernize Wrigley too much with a bunch of advertising and the like.

Yes, last season he was in the booth with Len and Bob and he mentioned that he'd love to own the Cubs.

I seem to remember Cuban singing the 7th inning stretch last year and being asked about buying a baseball team. He mentioned the Cubs because (and maybe someone can help me out here) Cuban helped engineer internet broadcasting rights for baseball games or something like that. It was through this that he developed a relationship to the Cubs. Can anyone help me out here?

I may be wrong, but I think the Cubs may have been the first, or among the first to broadcast games on the internet. I used to listen for free a long time ago, before MLB took over and ended up charging.

Well, I don't think the Trib might be selling anytime soon.

I wish Cuban would buy the Royals though. The Royals are just terrible right now.

I was thinking about this earlier during today's game "So are other teams even risking injury to their starters by playing them against KC this year? Or are they calling up their AA players to give them a look whenever they face the Royals?"

And of course, we don't get to play KC even though we're playing the AL central this year...no....we get to play the white sox 6 times...

Isn't one 3 game series a year against them enough?

*shrug* I don't make the scheduling decisions. I know for sure that the Royals will be playing the Cardinals 6 times this year, as they always have been for awhile.

Who have the Mavericks overpaid for to help the team? They let Nash go so they could sign Dampier. Nash goes on to become league MVP for Phoenix and Dampier isn't even in the starting lineup.

Where Cuban has spent money is on the coaching side, where you can make an impact spending hundreds of thousands instead of millions, and especially in mining statistical data and working with a coach who would enthusiastically use that data. Who knows, some of our stat-minded posters on NSBB might be welcomed into the organization. That's why I would be excited about Cuban potentially getting involved.

Yeah but you have to look at it this way -- Dallas had acquired Jason Terry and drafted Devin Harris. He could live without spending a lot of money on a PG because Terry is a solid vet and Harris is quickly becoming a great player. They needed a big body, and they got one in Dampier, it just hasn't worked out. Cuban knows what positions he needs to fill and what he needs to spend to fill it. He'd be a great fit here.

Which should be illegal, BTW.

Not to mention the Indians. Those will be tough games.
