or, in this case, it makes the last out at 3rd when that run is meaningless, and the potential winning run is due up. either way.

If it was to the right side, the guy has some decent speed and the RF is average, it is a risk worth taking.

 

If it was hit to the LF who has a cannon and the guy is slow then yes it was stupid.

 

So which scenario was it?

The left fielder was Shane Victorino, so it was a guy who appears to have somewhat decent speed, to the left fielder with a decent arm. Could have gone either way.

there are no circumstances that the risk was worth taking. none. his being at third would have done absolutely nothing to help the team win.
