is Bob Carpenter no longer the play-by-play guy on the WB-11 broadcasts? I'm watching the Mets/Nationals game and he's broadcasting for the Nationals. If he is no longer doing Cardinal games, did the Cardinals hire Dan McLaughlin to do the WB -11 weekend games, too?

If he's not their broadcaster anymore, that's one of the best moves in the history of Cardinal baseball. Why they brought him back is beyond me. I can't stand him when he does ESPN college basketball games, either. I think McLaughlin is much better than him anyway.

Yeah, I heard Bob went to the Nats.

I met him in person and he was a very nice guy. I don't think he was the best pbp guy in the biz by a long shot, but he was a good guy.

I've heard this same comment about him by many.

Is McLaughlin the guy in the Hot Shots sports bar commercials? Because that guy bugs the crap out of me.

That's him...and he bugs the crap out of me too.

A good friend of mine used to work at Busch, giving tours.

One day she was giving a tour to a group of gradeschoolers.

The tour went past a room where McLaughlin was taping a commercial, or something. Apparently the kids were too loud and McLaughlin opened the door, cussing and yelling at my friend to have the kids shut up.

McLaughlin's PR lady told him he should write a letter of apology.

McLaughlin responded with, "That won't be necessary."

He just looks like he is a spoiled brat.

It wasn't really a move by the Cards. He just up and left for Washington, which really surprised the organization. So they hired Wayne Hagin to replace him. Which was good because he shouldn't of been let go in the first place. I liked Carpenter all right (really think Horton not being very good is what makes him not good IMO), but Hagin is an upgrade over him.

Everytime I hear that story about McLaughlin, it makes me like him less more and more!

In my opinion, Carpenter and McLaughlin are complete opposites. One is a very nice guy and a horible play by play guy, and the other a real tool who is a pretty good play by play guy. When I lived in St. Louis I heard the same McLaughlin story. Evidently, some hire-ups at Bud Sports liked him (don't know why) and he was basically just given the Blues on-ice broadcaster and the Cardinals play by play gig. He doesn't seem to be respected much in the St. Louis media. Although I think he does a pretty good job as the Cardinals play by play guy, I think he's an awful basketball play by play guy (Mizzou and Missouri Valley games).

McLaughlin was the Grand Marshal of the St. Louis Mardi Gras parade. A couple of friends of mine were throwing beads at him on the route and he came over to them and said "Don't be angry, no need to throw beads in anger". Anyway, we thought it was pretty funny.

He seems to have a very sarcastic sense of humor.

It also doesn't seem like he and Hrabosky get along very well...at least it didn't used to seem that way.

His dad or uncle is apparently a big deal in broadcasting...or something like that.

He got his gig with the Blues & Cards because of his name.
