zambrano continues to suck it up....way to step it up with prior and wood gone.

What do you mean "continues?" Did you watch the last game he pitched against the Cardinals? 0 ER.

He lost his composure in that game too because of errors behind him.

did he "suck it up"?

He allowed 2 unearned runs to score.

Did he "suck it up"?

Dude, are you just looking for arguments? He has a 6 ERA this season, he's not pitching well.

I wouldn't necessarily agree. Yes, he allowed one hit after he had already gotten 4 outs. But his pitch count was already very high. Who's to say he wasn't tired by that point?

Either way, it was still a VERY good outing.

Z pitched a good to great game on Sat.

That's coming from a Cards fan.

It's early, and I think of Zambrano as a warmer weather pitcher.

my 2 cents...

I got flammed on the board a few weeks back for saying that while Z is clearly an ace pitcher, he isn't one of the elite (ie top 10) pitchers in the game. This inning really proves my point unfortunately. He sandwiches a string of Ks around a walk, HBP and HR to a weak hitter.

Lopez is not a weak hitter.

Doesn't matter what kind of hitter he is...he hit a 3 run homer.

But it doesn't someone show that Z is not an elite pitcher. Lopez is a good hitter. Good hitters are going to hit homeruns. Also, "elite" pitchers are going give up homeruns every once in a while.

Right, but give some credit to Lopez. This discussion shouldn't be all about whether Z is sucking or not...what about some credit to a very good hitter...Lopez. Maybe he just beat Z in that at bat...nothing more, nothing less.

What I really hate is that Milton is one of the worst pitchers in the league, but we cant do anything against him anymore.

Its almost as if the Cubs don't prepare as much or try as hard against lousy pitchers because they expect to do well, and then suck because they really don't know whats coming.

I agree. So far he's had 1 very good start with 2 terrible ones.

I'd loose my composure too if I had this lineup behind me

A pitcher shouldn't worry about what lineup supports him. Anytime you let up 4 runs by the 3rd inning you are in trouble.

wrong.

pitchers have off days, this is true, but when you turn around and realize two or three mistakes just cost you the game because there is ZERO chance of your team helping you out, it matters.

Elite pitchers don't melt down when a miscommunication happens, hit the next batter and then go 3-0 from over throwing and serve up a gopher ball. He absolutely has to learn to check himself.

Oh, I agree 100%, was just stating a fact that whether people think he stinks or not, he hit a 3 run homer.

Man Zambrano has really sucked this year *sigh* What the heck is wrong with him?

Again, his last start against the Cards was VERY good. Before today, one bad start, one very good start.

Yes so 2/3 of his games have sucked. Dissapointing for sure

You do know that Lopez is probably the 2nd or 3rd best hitting SS in the NL right?

Ok, so he's a pretty good hitter, but not a major HR threat.

Why do the Cubs always get stuck playing the Reds early in the season when the Reds think they can do something? It seems like this happened last year too.

Sample size? He had 1 bad game and 1 very good one.

I'm looking for someone to tell me how he sucked it up against the Cardinals.

And the year before, too.

Don't forget, fellas, we've got one awful pitcher, one average pitcher and one rookie going this weekend against a bad team. That's a recipe for a sweep!
