And just like last year, Gallagher is way ahead of the hitters in his league. 12 scoreless innings to start this year, after having 40+ scoreless to start 05.

Bravo. I still Gallagher is severely underrated.

Aardsma is on fire. If he can maintain the velocity and control he has got going now, he is major league ready. Its quite possible that if the Cubs traded someone like Williamson, whoever they got back would be like icing on the cake 'cause Aardsma looks like the real deal right now.

If the reports of Gallagher's velocity in another thread are accurate (low 90s, reaching 94-95 at times), then yes, he is absolutely underrated. With his curveball and the fact that they are letting him use his slider this season, he could do exactly what Oneri Fleita said he would do...rise quickly through the organization.

It looks promising with him. I'm not sure I believe the velocity report yet. I'm still a wait and see with Sean, but I'm optimistic.

Another Gallagher observation: Last year his overall GB/FB was 0.99, pretty neutral and slightly more fly-ball than normal. (The average pitcher gets more GB outs than FB outs.)

But in his two starts thus far, that profile has been reversed. He was 10GB/0FB yesterday until his last inning, and on the season he's 17GB/3FB/10K. That's really, really impressive.

I'm very curious about that. May be coincidence, of course. Even extreme fly-ball pitchers like Wellemeyer and Rich Hill have occassionally had strong GB games, so two games could just be coincidence.

But I might guess that intelligent use of the slider might play a helpful role. If a guy is throwing a pretty sharp fastball and keeping it down and around the corners, I'd guess a pitch that looks like a not-quite-so-fast-fastball and looks like it might be coming more down-the-middle might make hitters' eyes light up and get them swinging. But when that looks-like-a-whackable-fastball slides, mixing in a dozen of those per game might get him an extra half-dozen groundballs per game, including some welcome double-play balls.

Sean is also still only 20, only one full year of experience. And he's smart. So it wouldn't seem surprising is he's made some minor technical adjustments to perhaps give his fastball a little more sink or run, or to somehow stay on top of it a little bit better to keep it down and sinking.

I got with Derek to get some info from someone that has seen him in person. Derek says that Sean has been clocked by different radar guns (St. Lucie/Daytona) and is hitting 88-92 consistently. He said he hasn't seen him clocked at 94, but wouldn't be surprised if he has hit 94 ("He is throwing flames"). He also reiterated how well his breaking ball is working for him.

Hope that helps!

I may go out to see the game tuesday the 18th, its a 10:30 am game, which is perfect for me since I would be making the 3 hour trip to get out there and I have Mondays and Tuesdays off. It would be my first ever minor league game, anyone know what my chances are for seeing Gallagher that day? Whats his next scheduled start?

Gallagher is scheduled to pitch that day, hopefully there aren't rainouts or something else to screw that up for you.

Spoke with Sean last night and should've asked him cause I was curious also but Sunday is an off day. I would imagine that everybody would be just be pushed back a day and the 18th would be Seans next scheduled start.

Yeah, I assumed the same thing.

That would be sweet. If there is a radar gun there I'll try to find out what he's hitting, and give a report on the game when I get home.

Just bought my tickets, VIP section right behind 3rd base dugout, should be fun.

Is it too early to start talking about Gallagher going to WT.

I would let Sean have at least 10 starts at Daytona before considering moving him up.

Boooooo  Yeah that seems about right, its not like going from Low A to High A. IF he continues to pitch like this i really dont think that to be extraordinary to move him along mid-season.

Any update on how his change-up is progressing?
