While people are asking about Chicago, I'm staying at the Days Inn Lincoln Park in June when I come. Is there an L station nearby or should I just walk to the park?

If I remember right you're about halfway between the Belmont and Fullerton stops. Just walk to the park: it's only about a 1 mile walk right up Clark.

I am going to the game tomorrow and am planning on driving up and finding parking somewhere. Any advice for me? I would prefer to find a street spot somewhere to save money. What is this fullerton business? Is there a lot at the stop or just street parking and then taking the el?

No lot, but it's a lot easier to find parking, and it's like a 4 minute train ride straight to the stadium. Don't be confused though, parking still isn't guaranteed. You'll probably have to drive around the block once or twice if you're getting there late. I lived on Fullerton right by the el for five years, so I know the best places to look for spots when I go. That's why I always park there.

And Vance, you're probably better off walking, or just spending the two bucks on a cab. You're really not very far at all, so I say just take the walk.

Thanks. I'll be driving in from the St. Louis area. Any hints on how to get to the hotel?

55 North to Lake Shore Drive. LSD north to Fullerton. Fullerton to Clark. Clark to the hotel. I just prefer bringing out of towners in on Lake Shore for the views.

Vance,

That's the hotel I stay at when I go up to Chicago. It's about 3/4 of a mile from Wrigley and a straight walk up Clark. About 2 blocks up there's a Walgreens you can stop at and pick up any water, sunscreen, etc you may need for the game and then as you get closer to the ballpark there are tons of restaurants and bars you can stop in to break up the walk too.

It's a pretty easy trip from St. Louis. Take 70 or 270 to I-55 North and take that all the way to Chicago. Get off on South Lake Shore Drive headed north. Take the Fullerton exit, left on Fullerton, then Right on Clark. The hotel is on Diversey but the parking garage is on Clark just past the hotel on your left. Just print the directions from Mapquest for added peace of mind though.

I always just park at Fullerton and hop right on the red line. For being only a mile away from the stadium, you can usually find a spot right off the train. Or if you're feeling crazy, it's a $4.50 cab ride from there to the stadium.

That's always my suggestion. Parking around the Fullerton stop is not that tough, and then just a two stops up the red line to the Addison stop.

The only time I drive close to Wrigley and park for a game is when I bring my mom who can't walk far or do stairs very well.

Are you sure? I never try to drive to class at DePaul, because whenever I do, I never find a spot. You also can't head away from campus, because its usually harder to find a spot the closer you get to the lake, which is a general rule of thumb from Montrose to the Loop.

Most of those engines will have you taking 55 to the Dan Ryan and then getting off of Damon. Avoid that since the Dan Ryan is being worked on by IDOT right now

I stayed there last year. Just walk. And be prepared to be staying in a very small room. And I mean very small.

Depends on when you come down for class. If it's a day class, all of the residents cars are gone from Fullerton because many of them drive to work. Night class is a different story, but that's when you start to look on the sidestreets near Sanctuary and all those buildings because most the commuters are usually home by then. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. Best place I've found is the group of spots just south of the Athletic Center on Belden. People think it's permit parking, and they also think you can't park under the el. You can usually find one or two good spots there.

Or get on the brown line at Diversey and switch to the red line at Belmont.

You can also do the $6 DeVry lot. Just remember the shuttle stops running 1 hour after the game: so if you're planning to party post-game: keep it short. Edited by mjohnson71

Those directions on Mapquest tell you to get on the Dan Ryan for like 5 miles. There is major road construction going on. All I have heard is stay away from 90/94 at all costs.

at the best western o'hare in rosemont...i know there's a blue line el stop at o'hare, but does anyone know if the best western is within walking distance of this el stop, or does it offer a free shuttle to and from the el stop? thanks.

If you're showing up very early (ie more than 3 hours) you can probably find a spot in Wrigleyville, especially the north side of it (Grace to irving Park or so.) Just make sure you're in zone LV2 and not zone 383 for a day game. For night games, this will obviously not work since you'll get towed in either zone. The Sheridan "elbow", where Sheridan turns into Sheffield (look at a map) is completely unzoned.

I know they're doing work on the brown line too so they are closing certain stations one by one. Not sure if Belmont or Diversey is one of them, but I'd find that out before I took that trip.

The brown line stops that are being closed are wayyyy at the northwest end of the line. Belmont and Diversey are not being closed.

You're not lazy enough.

Also, how does the transfer of walking across the platform make it so much more work?

Right now I think its still Kimball and Francisco that are closed. They haven't even come close to my area yet (Irving Park)

That's awesome. I am going to try that sometime.

When I am in Chicago I use this portion of the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) site whenever I want to go somewhere. It tells you exactly which subway or bus to take. Although you would need a computer and internet access.

I'm not saying it's like switching from the blue to red lines at the Washington stop: it's just the time of waiting for another train.
