I walked past the bleachers on my way to work today...

As I do every morning. They're taking down the street barricades this morning and doing some final cleanup work around the bleacher entrance. The entrance is much taller and more imposing than it was last year, obviously.

Oh yeah, one more thing.

THERE'S A HUGE "BUD LIGHT BLEACHERS" METAL SIGN OVER THE ENTIRE ENTRANCE. IT'S HUGE. IT WRAPS AROUND THE WHOLE CORNER OVER THE ENTIRE BLEACHER ENTRANCE. THE WORKERS WERE HAPPILY PUTTING IT UP THIS MORNING. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Gee, I can't wait for the "Welcome to the Bud Light Bleachers" PA announcement that'll play constantly to those entering.

I too walk by every morning and I am torn. I can't tell if I like or dislike the new design.

By new design, do you mean before or after the giant Bud Light Bleachers sign that towers over everything?

Before that, I didn't think it was half bad. I kinda liked the extra-wide sidewalk from before, though. The new sidewalk is much narrower (the park extends out about 5 feet from its former width) which is going to make bus dropoff and pickup and bleacher lines very interesting.

But this sign is God-awful.

This really isn't a surprise. They're getting zero signage inside, so I figured we'd see a big-ass sign outside.

I didn't see that this morning. I'll look for it tonight. I'm talking more about where the brickwork hits the seats. I really like the brickwork but I'm not sure I like the overhang from the seats that goes a little over the sidewalk.

All things considered...if that's what it looks like, I can't say I'm upset, or suprised.

If that's all there is then I have absolutely no problem with it. Obviously in an ideal world there would be no advertising (apart from the mildly entertaining Miller Lite signs on the house behind RF and the traditional Budweiser building in left center), but the Trib has to fill their own pockets I suppose, and there are much more distasteful things they could do.

Interesting. Is that little black car (volkswagon?) going to hit the small SUV?

I'm interested in how it's going to look when finished (are they going to fill in the open spaces with bricks?) I don't really care about the name or the sign. It's odd placement because most pictures of the stadium are of the marquee, or from inside the stadium And most people approach the bleachers from along either the back of the LF or RF wall, so it's not really in your face (it looks like you'd have to look up just as you enter to see it). The main view of this sign would be people standing on the opposite corner.

Well that explains it.

It's funny that you mention the Miller sign and Budweiser sign. That "traditional" Bud sign isn't even all that traditional, as it went up in the early 90's (I believe). The most traditional sign was the Torco sign, but that was an ad as well. It's interesting how much people can fret over advertising, but then how relatively quickly much of the signage can be adopted as tradition. The day they start putting cheesy boards on the OF fence is the day I start worrying about too many ads in Wrigley. It's still, by far, the least advertisement flooded stadium in pro sports. And I don't get why people get so worked up over the modest changes like these. Although I recognize that this over the top reaction is probably largely responsible for keeping the worst stuff out of there, so thanks for that.

We're tripping over midgets here...let's move on.

Besides, the entire joint is already an advertisement (i.e. Wrigley). At least we led the way with the whole “naming rights” trend!

Maybe I'll make myself a "Bleacher Fan sponsored by Old Style" shirt to wear in the bleachers. I mean, the Bud Light Bleachers.

Meh, they deserve to put as much advertising up as they want. It's obvious from the Cubs track record that a majority of revenues that devalue Wrigley Field so much are being used to improve the ballclub, one of winningest ballclubs in all of sports.

To steal from WSI (which is one idea I really like there) /teal

Does anyone know how long Bud Light has the naming rights?

All news stories say the terms were not disclosed. Something mentioned that it was for less than $1million per season. My guess is that it's on a per year basis, but that's just a guess.
