I didn't see this posted elsewhere, but on the 12:30 Score update, Mark O'Neal was quoted as saying Prior is pain free and has been cleared to resume throwing, and threw 30-40 long tosses this morning. No timetable was given for a return by the Cubs. George Offman also reported that both Kerry Wood (3 sets of 20 pitches) and Wade Miller (about 30 pitches) threw yesterday.

I guess this is good news.

Depends on what he is throwing. If it's a towel it's not really news at all.

We'll see Prior in June or July if the Cubs are still in it. If not we'll see him in 2007.

He'll be back late April at the latest. Chill out.

We'll see. Jose Contraras had the exact same "strain" and missed two months.

Good news. Wonder how long it'll take him before he can build up enough strength to throw to hitters again, though.

If he can throw a towel that distance, the man is amazing.

Finally a Prior injury turns out to not be a big deal (at least on the Cubs Pitcher Scale).

Yeah, not a big deal. I'll beleive that when i see him on the mound throwing. A ball. To hitters. in a game. a REAL game.

The Cubs have lost all creadability with me.

He's throwing resumes?

Oh, wait, nevermind...

I hope not. Wouldn't want him to get a papercut. And then, of course, it would get infected and he'd go on the DL for 6 weeks.

Bitter cynicism or sarcasm mocking cynics?

Either way, very funny.

Great news. Guess that means I need to order a bunch of noisemaker blowouts. (At least, that's what one site called them - what name do you use for those party items where you blow in one end and the paper attached to it unrolls?)

Until he makes a number of starts in games that count, he's still injured.

He was cleared to throw today. Tomorrow he could be sore and not throwing again. It means nothing, and I wish the media would quit trumpeting every little thing that happens. All it does is get people's hopes up when really nothing has changed.

You said it. TThey report on every single stinker that is let with this. It's just sad. They can start the presses when he actually pitches in a real game. I guess it's better news that "Prior to under the knife" though.

Aint no sunshine when he's gone,

It's not warm when he's away...

Aint no sunshine when he's gone!

and he's always gone to long,

anytime he goes away.

So he'll be injured even if he isn't?

And are you suggesting that the Cubs and the media should just stop giving us updates? I would think that a lot of people have interest in Prior's first step in coming back from this shoulder strain. I would also classify going from not throwing to throwing as a change.

I'm suggesting he's injured until he takes the field in a game that matters, yes. I'm also suggesting until he strings a few starts together without going down again, he's not fully back.

I'm also suggesting we get off the hope train and deal in reality. A player is injured until he plays for real, in a game that counts. Not before. Being "cleared to pitch" means nothing. It's like being cleared to use crutches when you're in a cast. Whoop-de-do. Can you run the 100-yard dash yet? No? Talk to me when you're ready, son.

George Ofman said tonight, IN HIS OPINION, that Prior won't return to the Cubs until June.

I highly doubt this and so did the am670 host, whose name I've forgotten.

He's just sick of the lies too. Good for him. It would have been easy to cave in to the latest media B.S. and declare Prior will be ready to go in April.
