so 12 innings of one run ball b/w hill, gooz, and marshall? good thing spring training doesn't count for rusch and williams.

awesome job by marshall today...couldn't happen to a nicer guy. i still think the 5th spot in the rotation will be determined by who has the best first couple starts in the minors.

As best I could determine, Hill had a couple of rocky spells but worked out with only giving up one run. The later innings I can't tell you much.

thanks for the updates, by the way.

hill's line...

4 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 0 bb, 4 k's, save.

gotta love him keeping the walks down. i'm still surprised that he appears to be third in line at this point.

It's not a bad line.

FWIW, I feel good about whoever we'll use on 4/15. I'd go with Guzman, but I'd be ok with Hill or Marshall as well. If Miller, Wood, and Prior all get healthy, we could have the right depth to make an impact move in July this year.

yeah, that's real good to see no walks, seems like hill's been much more calm the last couple outings

If there's one spot, who's the favorite, Guzman or Marshall?

I gotta say Marshall. He's been lights out this spring.

Although the walks concern me.

How's married life treating you?

Quite well. We've made it a week without killing each other. We're finally sorting our wedding gifts today. I got sick of seeing them in our spare room. It looks like we're just moving in!

So the Cubs had the bases loaded with one out in the 9th but didn't score.

Did anyone catch the Len comment after the commerical?

Len said, "The Cubs couldn't squeeze out a run."

Is that a subtle comment about Dusty's well-known reluctance to call for a squeeze?

The Cubs loaded the bases...I have no idea how. Hudson pitching for the Royals gets someone to ground out 6-4-3 to get out of it. They stop the interview to break for commercials. I don't see why that matters. Why not pre-empt commercials to finish the interview. It's not like they seem to care about telling me about the game. :X

Sing has mad power.

I called it.

I was telling my dad how if we didn't re-sign lee, this would be a GREAT 1B to have in a year or so. Otherwise he is going to make a great trading chip if lee resigns. I told him, watch this guy get a hit. I swear this guy is good. And then he won the game for us. It's too bad we have lee.

I am developing a mad mancrush on Sing!

What bothers me so much about him was that every team in baseball had a chance to jump on him earlier in the offseason when the Cubs decided not to roster him and expose him to these teams...yet no one took a chance on him.

Now, plenty of baseball teams have been wrong before when it comes to evaluating guys, but more often than not, they tend to have a handle on what they're doing.

I wish the guy nothing but the best, but I'm skeptical for now.

He can play some OF too. I wouldn't mind seeing him get some platoon time with Jones, who has been absolutely horrible since his first hot week or so to begin ST. I'm really worried about Jones...

and if Koronka didn't suck, it would have been a no-no...
Until a few years ago, that would have counted as a no-hitter. Until rules were revised (I don't recall exactly when, but I'm thinking within the past 5--10 years) a game counted as a no-hitter if no hits were given up through nine innings, even if hits were given up in extra innings. That's why for so many years Harvey Haddix had been credited with a perfect game and Hippo Vaughn of the Cubs had been credited with a double no-hitter (along with Fred Toney of the Reds) even though both Haddix and Vaughn gave up hits in extra innings. Now those are no longer recognized as no-hitters. A team has to be held without a hit for the entire game, even if in extra innings.

So I got home from work last night at 1am and I watched the game (on Tivo) and it was a great one to watch. Thouroughly enjoyed the pitcher's duel and Harden was nasty as was Guzman when he got it over. The interview with Dusty was actually pretty informative regarding Marshall and Cedeno and Lee's absence. Jones' interview was pitiful.

But I jsut have to say, I love Tivo...so nice to come home and have to stay up until 3 am just because you get interested in the game.
