Tiger you have to look deeper at it than just his K-State stint though. First of all that's not the easiest place to succeed under normal circumstances.

I don't think it's that much harder to build a success at KState. Remember, they had a very solid program for a while, including 4 or 5 final fours. The've been down for the last 15-20 years or so...ever since Kruger left. Yeah, it's ion the boons, but a lot of schools are. If they get Huggy, they'll be good again.

I hope Mizzou passes on Alford. but with the state of that program, it might be hard to lure the best coaches there. Still, that should be a top 30 gig, IMO. It's the only high-major school in a state with two decent sized urban areas. Good acadmeically. New facilities. Decent college town. There's no reason they shouldn't have a strong program. They ought to fire Alden and let someone with a brain do the hiring.

Agreed. If it's true that Sundvold wanted Self when Snyder was hired, then I take a lot more stock in his opinion than Aldens. A lot of people down here are really fed up with Alden. They have already been calling for his firing. I think if he whiffs on this new coach, he's gone.

I never understood why Alford would be interested in Missouri anyways. Moving from one moderately successful program (current and past) to another moderately successful program (mostly the past) makes little sense whatsoever(unless Mizzou would be dumb enough to give him more $$$$$).

Not to mention (no offense), I don't think the MU is any bigger of a sell than Iowa is. One college is in a big time conference and in the middle of nowhere, while the other school is in a big time conference in the middle of nowhere. Talk about a lateral move.

Well, Missouri is technically less than two hours away from both Kansas City and St. Louis. That has to count for something.

I think it's easier to succeed at Mizzou than Iowa, mostly because of the recruiting base. They also probably have better facilities now and a ton of financial support behind the program.

Still Alford is a Big Ten guy, and unless he was fired from Iowa, the only realistic job I would have seen him leaving for is Indiana's.

Iowa City's only 2.5 to 3 hours away from Chicago. So what's you're point? :P

Being close to St. Louis counts for something, but it isn't good.

Well, I guess you're right. Kansas City and St. Louis are actually less than Chicago.

Whatever the grad rate is at KState it will go down dramatically. Huggy is a very good coach and recruiter but he doesn't belong at a college campus IMO.

Screw the grad rate.. we need to WIN! KU fans must be pissing down their leg right now! HAHA!!!! This makes my day!

Sampson should be happy. He now has someone in the conference to challenge him on grad rates.

Actually, have read somewhere in the last 2 days, that his last 11 seniors have graduated, and since 2000, he's had a great grad rate, minus his players that have gone to the NBA. I need to find the article again.

You're talking about Huggins right? Because I don't think Sampson has graduated 11 in his entire time at OU.

Will Budweiser now be the arena sponsor at KSU?

Settle down there Wildcat.

Did Huggins ever make it to the Final Four at Cincinnati?

Like Cuse said Huggins can win games, but I would want nothing to do with him near my school. I guess winning with a bunch of thugs and a slimy coach doesn't appeal to me.

Okay, that's why I asked. I couldn't remember if he did that far back. Did they play Michigan or Duke that year?

By the way should we just change the title of this thread to something about all college basketball coaching changes? Just a suggestion.

When's the last time Iowa went to the Final Four?

No, I'm happy. It was boring beating up on you guys. We'll still be better anyway.

Not sure if you're going somewhere with that or just asking...

Right, because it gets so boring winning all the time. I guess that is why you guys have tanked the last two tournaments, boredom. I for one think it is great that finally there is a chance that another Big 12 North team will be D1.

I was thinking there was one time in the late 70s that Iowa and another Big Ten (back when it really WAS the Big Ten :D ) team, perhaps Purdue, were in the Final Four.

Edit: I missed the fact that the question was already answered in an earlier post. 1980 is what I was thinking of.

So much hostility. The rivalry isn't fun anymore, is all I'm saying. Do you get a major rise out of beating up Northwestern? (Maybe, as UI is a second tier program). It's more fun when the stakes are higher, when you go into a game wondering who's going to win. This year, KSU beat us for the first time since 1993. They've never beaten us in their current home gym. Never. Do I find that amusing? Of course. But I'd rather be able to take pride in beating our rival. It's not much fun when you're expected to do it. In the Kruger/Hartman eras, it meant something to beat KSU.

As for losing to Bradley...the more I watch them, the less I'm concerned about it. They're good. I'd still take the state of KU's program over the state of UI. have fun wating for Gordon to show up. That's about all you have to look forward to with that returning lineup.

I am pretty excited about Jamar Smith, Brian Randle, and Shaun Pruitt. I know next year will be a little rough, I am ok with that. Lets say that Rush and Wright both go pro and Collins doesn't qualify(which sounds likely at this point) how good will you guys be. I think Rush is gone reguardless of what he says, remember marvin williams and vince young? If we get Leon Freeman, yeah I know seems as likely to qualify as Sherron, we will be pretty good again next year. Plus I think Carlwell and Semrau will both be better than people think. We are not a second tier program, we match up pretty well all time in both wins and winning percentages. Question if they all come back for you are you worried about being the first 1 seed to lose in the first round? Cause deep down you know it will happen, Self can't coach.
