I think Pagan may play himself into a bench role. I was talking with some Met's fans and they said he can flat out fly!

He's definately got speed on his side, hopefully he can really come around as a hitter.

No sooner said, and Pagan raps a double !!

This is really encouraging to see...the brass has to be happy with him so far.

The Padres took the lead again 9-8. No clue how they scored.

Jack Cust with a double down the RF line scored Barfield...

I'll never forgive Cust for hitting a 2-run HR against the Cubs with 2-outs in the top of the 9th when he was with the Rockies to tie it up. I was already ready to leave that game and had to stay for another 3 and a half innings before Alou homered off the fence behind the family section with Sosa aboard to end it. Nice weather, though, so that made up for me being in a hurry to get back.

Looks like Eric Patterson didn't get an ST invite despite ending a year a level higher than Dope. Or maybe he just hasn't appeared in a game yet?

Dopirak had to be added to the 40-man roster. All players on the 40 man are invited to ST. Patterson hasn't been in the system long enough to necessitate his being on the 40-man. He'll get called up from minor league camp to appear in some games, but he isn't training in major league camp.

That, and we already have 3 potential 2Bs in ST already, not counting some of our potential utility/infield guys at AAA who are in camp. EP would have had a very very hard time getting at bats what with the "competition" between Walker, Hairston, and Perez.

He's not a very good hitter and doesn't even steal bases that effectively. There are quite a few guys I'd rather see on the team than Pagan.

Historically in his career you are correct, however, he is making the decision fairly difficult with his performance this spring.

Judging players based on spring performances is really silly. It's not a lot of playing time, and the competition that playing time comes against varies wildly. Pagan's on the 40-man, so it's not like a decision must be made on him right away either.

It's only been 7 games, that's not that big a sample to say he's making the decision fairly difficult.

Well since we have only played 7 games and he has been impressive so far, I would say the Cubs brass is looking extremely hard at him...I am not implying he is a world beater, but if he keeps up this type of play the decision will be fairly difficult.

True enough, I wouldn't argue that, I am just saying he is playing very well. Some other's cant say that so much.

Just to back up MHuber, Lightner is an idiot. He is horrible. However, Coleman is a HOF broadcaster. Not sure if he was doing any of this particular broadcast, but the comments don't sound like anything he would say.

Vasgersian and Mark Grant on the tv side are just as good if not better as our broadcast team. Vasgersian has done the last 2 Olympics besides doing Padres games. The Padres would not let Vasgersian out of his contract to interview for the Cubs job opening last year, otherwise it would probably have been Vasgersian getting the job. No disrespect to Len, as both are excellent game callers.
