Stats aren't EVERYTHING.

Maybe. But when you are trading your third best hitter for an average-at-best back up player, then you need to stop and figure out wth you are doing. And furthermore, Walker isnt a bad defensive second baseman. I dont know where that idea comes from. He's not a gold glover, but he's very solid, and makes few mistakes. And since when has he had trouble bunting?

Simply put Walker was the 3rd best hitter on this team last year, and we are planning on trading him for tony graffinino? Thats a terrible idea.

I'm sure the Cubs are scouting other players as well, everything depends on Walker. If they put Hairston at 2B, they'll need a RH utility player. I just don't know what the Cubs would be looking for if they trade Walker.

Would they be looking to get a Justin Berg type prospect, from a team who might need some offense from 2B at the expense of defense? Or would they look to improve the 25 man roster?

Ideally, this would set-up nicely for a 3 team trade, whomever would want Walker would be the 3rd team. Boston gets a prospect/player for Graffanino, Cubs get Graffanino/PTBNL, and that 3rd team gets Walker.

The Graffanino rumors still won't go away. ESPN Insider is now indicating that he will definately get moved before the season starts, and the Cubs are still listed among the same 4 interested teams as has been reported for a few weeks.

I'm still trying to understand why the Cubs need a 4th 2B. As others have said, it must hinge on a Walker deal, but that doesn't seem likely.

Why didn't we go after Cintron instead???

Maybe because Cintron isn't that adept at "catching the ball."

Or maybe we didn't have a 28-year old AAA pitcher to give them.

Maybe we'll get Graffanino and Neifi will get magically run over by a truck?

Hopefully Graffanino gets traded to the Cubs. I would love to see him in the number 2 spot in the order. Along with the good defense he brings.

you mean career backup tony graffanino who has never had more than 379 ABs in a season? tony graffanino, the guy who was below average defensively (-6 FRAA) at 2B last year?

sure sounds great to me. i'd much rather have him over todd walker!

The Red Sox have placed second baseman Tony Graffanino on waivers.

Graffanino was scheduled to make $2.05 million if the Sox didn't trade or waive him by Wednesday. The Mets, Cardinals, and Cubs could all have interest in the second baseman.

How do waiver claims at this point work, last years standings? If the Cubs claim would trump the Cardinals claim, they should almost claim him to keep him from going to the Cards. :D

As nice as that sounds, if the Red Sox let us have him, we'd be stuck with him. It would almost force us to carry way too many middle infielders.

Well, if the Cubs have been seriously looking at Bynum, as Bruce Levine suggested, then Tony would take that spot.
