Yet more love for Carlos Lee.

I can't even begin to understand a pick of .265/.324/.487 with horrible defense versus .306/.402/.559 with good defense and a rather remarkable 21/1 stolen base / caught stealing ratio. What am I missing? Can someone who has picked Carlos Lee please defend the choice of Lee over Bay?

Provided Walker isn't traded and gets the playing time he has earned over the last two seasons, I'd expect him to be the best 2B in the division and for it not really to be close.

I think Weeks will easily surpass him this season.

Sheets? Yes. Oswalt, Maybe. I like this guy better than Ollie. He just wins. :-)

I also dont get the Berkman over Edmonds, they had pretty much the same amount of at bats and Edmonds outslugged him, had more HR's, more Rbis. Berkman out hit him and had a higher on base percentage. But not big enough to make up for Edmonds edge in power numbers and defense.

Why is there so much confidence in Sheets staying healthy, but so much pessimism about Wood?

Perhaps off topic, but why so much confidence in Sheets or Wood vs. Rolen?

Perhaps off topic, but why so much confidence in Sheets or Wood vs. Rolen?

I personally don't have a lot of confidence in either Rolen or Aramis playing 150 games this year.

I want David Wright. :(

I actually like Wright better.

Though I'd be happy with either one, of course.

How come? I like Miggy's ability to play multiple locs and he is a better hitter and younger.

Wright would probably do fine in the OF, too, so I don't count the positional advantage as much of one.

Wright's first full season in the bigs compares favorably with Cabrera's. He's a more athletic guy, so I give him a higher ceiling than Cabrera. I like Wright's demeanor on the field better and think his approach to the game will serve him better over the long run.

Why do you think Cabrera's such a better hitter? Their career lines are as follows:

.302/.371/.524

.300/.366/.523

The only thing I'll give you as an edge for Cabera is the year younger. But they are both mere pups.

Wood is a member of the Cubs, whereas Sheets is a member of one of the Cubs' competitors. Just that piece of information alone doubles the odds that Wood will get hurt and Sheets won't.

Yeah I guess it really is a no lose situation. I think I just overvalue Miggy because of what he did to us in the playoffs at such a young age. That and I think he keeps getting better as a hitter. Maybe I just have more confidence because he has more of a history. That being said I will take one for 3B and the other for LF if they are available.

Considering this seems to be a bit of a fantasy thread, I found this an interesting read...http://forums.stltoday.com/viewtopic.php?t=338530

Why is there so much confidence in Sheets staying healthy, but so much pessimism about Wood?

Because Sheets isn't coming off surgery, maybe?

Because Sheets' injury history relates to his back and an ear infection, and nothing to do with his shoulder or elbow?

Because Sheets is less likely to run into the ground by his manager?

Because Sheets has actually been healthy and at his best within the last 21 months?

Come on people, none of this shuffling around crap. This isn't put together the baddest fantasy team by switching positions.

For example, I have more love for Adam Dunn than most people but Albert is clearly the best first baseman. That doesn't mean I stick one of them in the outfield.

But both have played there recently and still are young enough to go back. It isn't like we are saying hey lets put dlee at second or short.

I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to put together a predicted 2006 NL-C all star team by the position they are going to play this year?

Or are you trying to put together the best possible team using players form the NL-C at positions where they are capable of playing?

Both are valid questions.
