Now I dont have a link to this, but my dad told me over the weekend that he read in the Trib that theres a possiblity if Sosa is healthy and signs with the NATS that we would either get Soriano or Vidro. Now obviously we wouldnt know until after spring training so im not sure if this is true or not. Someone let me know what they heard. I say that Soriano a nice 5 hitter and is about the same in the field as Walker. Vidro a good 2 hitter and better than walker at the 2 spot. I dont know what he is like in the field. On the other hand Sosa is thinking about retirement so if anyone has a link or has heard about this let me know

Soriano is viciously overpriced at $10 million compared to Walker and Hairston. I would like to get Vidro if he's healthy. Huge if.

i agree with both, but if we dont have to give much to get soriano i dont care about the salary cause we have the money to pay for him

I think it's been pretty much dismissed that we're not going after Soriano if he won't move into the OF (and that speculation was before our OF was set). We've never even talked with Washington about Soriano. All that stuff was going on back when he was in Texas and hadn't pulled his temper tantrum act over a change of position.

I'm not high on Vidro. Hendry/Dusty have pretty much used up the injury card over the past couple seasons. They might not be able to pull it out after next season if they take on another obvious injury risk (Vidro).

If there are any teams on the North Side of Chicago looking for a second baseman, Washington still has two, and one of them is Jose Vidro, who says he wants to play 160 games this year.

Vidro told MLB.com that his knee is close to 100 percent, and two weeks ago he did squat and jumping exercises in front of Washington team doctors without any pain.

Just in case there’s a team on the North Side of Chicago looking for a second baseman.

If the 100% healthy part is true, getting him for Walker (3 way?) would be ok. I'd rather keep walker as Vidro has been trending downward offensively for a while now, but he doesn't suck.

I wish we would get Todd Walker. His OBP would look good in the 2 spot. Or we could pay many millions more to not make a significant upgrade to our team. Either way.

Could you please stop letting facts and common sense get in the way of not improving this team? Sheesh.

How does Soriano improve this team? He's worse defensively than Walker. His offensive prowess is overrated IMO.

Walker OPSed .820 and .829 the last two seasons. Soriano offered up .808 and .821. Factor in Soriano's horrible plate discipline and tell me who is the better offensive player over the last two seasons.

Soriano isn't the biggest threat on the basepaths either. 48 SB over the past 2 seasons, although his SB ratio was outstanding last season.

How much do each of these players make? 25-30 steals and 5-10 more errors a season with Soriano. Awesome. I'd prefer the Trib keeps its 7.5M, or better yet, gets us a legitimate everyday RF.

What's better, having Walker bat 2nd and Jones 5th or having Soriano bat 5th and Cedeno/ Murton/ Perez batting 2nd?

Both approaches have big flaws.

I think soriano at 5 and murton at 2 looks better than walker at 2 and jones at 5 i know soriano is bad in the feild, but walker isnt exactly a gold glove second baseman. Plus you also have to realize that soriano can get to alot of balls that walker cant. He also will hit a little worse avg wise, but will hit 20 more dongs which is more important than a 2 hitter that hits .300 but isnt good at advancing the runner. I think that people are paying to much attnetion to the avg of Walker and not him fitting in as a good 2 hitter. Either way Walker isnt bad, but i ust think id rather have a good 5 hitter and a decent two hitter that can move pierre over.

Todd Walker OBP: .355

Alfonso Soriano OBP: .309

That looks pretty good at "advancing the runner".

Oh lord! Please do not even attempt to argue that Walker is a better offensive player than Soriano. Walker didnt hit 36 HR or have 104 RBI. Walkers other stats weren't half what Soriano's were.

Straight-up, give me Soriano over Walker.

But... 10 mil, the players req'd to get him, and Soriano is not worth the desire for that improvement.

Yeah he'd cost us far to much. I heard an interview with a Washington paper guy today, he was saying that the whole situation with Soriano not wanting to move positions is a real mess and he thinks that they will wind up trying to move him but that they will want a "frontline starter". He says that he doesnt see that happening soon though. He said there would not be many teams willing to give up a "frontline starter" at this point. Maybe at some point they get ansy to be rid of him and will take less, maybe a package that includes Rich Hill or something, I dunno...

Still not worth that salary and the Cubs probably have just as many questions of him sticking at 2B as everyone else does.

You can trade Koronka for Soriano and he'll still get paid 10mil, which is way too much, even with the Cubs and that's before considering they already have Walker and (to a lesser extent) Hairston on the roster .

Yeah the Cubs were interested in trading for him last year but wanted to stick him in the outfield as well. Maybe he will really focus during spring training on improving his defense, it looks like Vidro might not be ready to start the season at 2nd due to his knees or whatever. If he hasnt improve to this point though he may never.

im not comparing the obp of them i know walker can get on base but i think murton or cedeno would be better at doing the litte things like bunting the runner over. I remember that walker is not to great of a bunter. Id like Soriano at 5 not for his obp

Bunting is a stupid reason. He's bad at getting out intentionally, is what you're saying... I'd rather him get on base, which he will do better than just about anyone else on the team.
