Dunn led the Reds with 28 Win Shares. 6 more than the next highest player on the team.

BTW, that is also higher than any player on the Cubs for 2005 except Lee. If Dunn isn't a difference maker, I guess the Cubs don't have any of those either with the possible exception of Lee.

We only won 79 games last year, so Lee isn't a difference maker.

I don't care how much Pie is going to cost of the next few years and very very expensive Dunn is. Dunn is a difference maker.

Dunn HASN'T done anything (no pun intended) to show he is a "difference maker". He hasn't improve the Reds since he's been there (granted not many players could improve that team). Granted Dunn hits a few out, and walk a few times, but in no way would I consider Dunn a "difference maker" until he proves it.

What else exactly would he have to do to be a difference maker?

How about becoming....I don't know....a COMPLETE player? Or...helping the Reds WIN MORE GAMES....maybe.....doing those things. No doubt Dunn is a GIFTED POWER THREAT, but having power doesn't mean he is a "difference maker."

Who would you consider to be a difference maker?

your nuts! if because of some weirdo statistic called win shares you are baseing that dunn is more important to his team this Lee then you are [expletive]. Lee was much more important to us then Dunn was for the Reds. Hence we had more wins then them.

Don't be so shy, please let him know how you really feel about him and his opinion.

No one is saying Lee isn't a difference maker, but to argue that a player who puts up a 900 OPS isn't a difference maker is a ridiculous statement.

By using success of the team as the mark of difference maker, then no player on a losing team can be a difference maker.

By that argument, Arod wasn't a difference maker until he joined the Yankees.

By that argument, Vlad wasn't a difference maker until he joined the Angels.

By that argument, Tejada was a difference maker, joined the Orioles and now he no longer is one.

That's about as assinine argument as I've heard in awhile.

uh........Albert Pujols.....Alex Rodriguez....Barry Bonds? I'm sorry if I don't view Dunn as "God's golden boy of baseball," but I am not at all convince he would be the "final" piece to a puzzle, a great piece, just not the "final" piece.

This is a very easy argument to make since you never quantify anything.

Those 3 are obvious. How many players in MLB today would be considered "complete players" by your definition. I'd guess under 10. Those guys are extremely hard to come by, so most teams have to take what they can get.

Arod can't be a difference maker! He didn't make a difference all those years in Texas!

Do you have to be healthy in order to be a difference maker? It's hard to make a difference when you're on the DL.

A-Rod made a difference in Seattle AND Texas. When he left, they both got better.

And if Dunn's so good and always available for pitching, then it seems to me that he would've been moved by now. I think Dunn is pretty good(be a whole lot better if he cut down his K's and hit more than .250), so I'd say that the Reds ALSO think that he's pretty good and have decided that they aren't gonna move him anywhere except to first base in Cincinatti.

Aramis Ramirez would be a lot better if he hit .450, but that doesn't mean he's not a very good player. A low batting average and/or a high number of K's don't negate actual production, but it's more difficult to produce with them. In Dunn's case, he's still one of the best hitters in the game, so it matters much much less than say, Corey Patterson.

Thanks for the insult, Mr. Run-On-Sentence. When you feel like discussing baseball and actually reading people's posts, then please respond. Nice impression you've left people on the site so far, unfortunately its not one portraying you as competent. Keep up the good work!

See Vance's post for my opinion.

Ok, sorry I somewhat misinterpreted what you guys said. All im saying is I don't think win shares are a valid statistic. I thought that this sabermetric excuse for a stat was used to show Dunn's superiority over D Lee. I misread the point of your post even though I still think stats like Winshare, Vorp, and all the rest of Billy Beane's caculator crap should be left out of baseball. In my personal opinion I dont think that Dunn is a difference maker at least for the Reds. Now if you put him on a team like the cubs that has a pitching staff he could make a difference with the extra pop he has. I apologize about my "run-on setences and gramatical errors" I dont take the time to worry about them on messge boards.

Adam Dunn is not a difference maker if Florida is bringing him in to backup Cabrera. He is not a difference maker if the Cards bring him in as a 1B, when there's nothing at all wrong with Pujols. Get it? That OPS is a difference maker when it is coming from a full-time player.
