Can I borrow your sweet new Cubs hat sometimes, Vance?

We'll see. I think I might have to go http://www.wrigleyvillesports.com and pick one out now!

Don't think there's a chance I'll win this one, just backing up my bold talk. Anyone want to make me a bet I can win?

I bet you a drink you'll never come visit me at Zoe's. You have approximately 10 weeks to cash in on this. I move from STL at the start of June.

You're so on.

I like my chances that Walker and Hairston will play enough to have the Cubs 2b outproduce Spivey. Spivey isn't really that good.

How about the loser buys the winner the cap of their choice?

I don't like this move Vance. It's smart on paper, but remember that these are the Cubs and Cards you are talking about. Chances are the Walker and/or Hairston will get hurt, and the Cubs will sign Macias and platoon him with Perez at 2B. Meanwhile, Spivey will stay healthy all year and put up numbers at or above his career best. Can't see you winning this one, buddy.

Did you mean to use your sarcasm font, Truffle? So far this spring, Spivey's made Macias look like a HOFer. Spivey will be lucky (although I'm not so sure the Cards will) to make the starting 2b spot.

I've been shopping around. With the way Spivey is hitting this spring, I think I could win this one even if Neifi is the starting secondbaseman.

Here are some I like:

That 3rd one is hideous. The 1st one, pretty much every Cub fan I know has, so I wouldn't get it, but you don't have to worry that much about having similar hats I'd imagine.

You got it all wrong. He brings "damage."

Well then, that makes all the difference in the world!

Actually I was so incredulous from reading the article I was in a hurry to post and mixed it up. Oh well.

Maybe Juan will finally play up to his potential. And maybe Jessica Alba will be in my room when I go home tonight.

I have to say, this "caveat" garbage is some of the weakest gambling I've seen in my life. You don't make bets about production but then say it doesn't count if the guy's season is injury marred. What if he is a little banged up, but healthy enough to play, and is held out anyway because he sucks? What if he's really hurt, but plays almost everyday anyway?

Suck it up and place your bets, don't look for escape hatches.

I've already decided to make Encarnacion my whipping boy for any and all problems the team has this season. After watching him be useless for the Dominican in the WBC I'm expecting to see a lot of Eckstein getting on base only to have Encarnacion strike out, ground out, basically waste an out before Pujols has a chance to drive them in.

My only hope is that hitting in front of Albert gives him a steady diet of fastballs because pitchers don't want to walk him, but even that is far fetched because he doesn't have that much discipline.

Juan Encarnacion is the bane of my existence.

Seriously, just looking at him makes me angry. Why couldn't we just give Reggie 2/10??

I mean, Spivey has a career .359 OBP, way better than Juan's .319. Why don't we hit Spivey 2nd and put Juan 6th where he belongs?

If he's healhy Spivey can do "damage" and probably get on base more too.

How did the Royals do the best in the LF sweapstakes this offseason?

In fairness, I included the injury caveat when I first proposed the bet. Also, if Spivey doesn't play, that doesn't count as an injury. And unlike Vance's bet, mine only refers to Spivey, it doesn't include any other player at 2nd. I don't see what's so "weak" about this bet.

Vance, do I owe you a hat if Spivey is released outright or traded (could be a very realistic possibility) or is the bet off?

It's weak because you included it.

If you believe he can do it, make the bet without any escape hatches. Live a little. I mean, it's only a hat.

I'm actually surprised. Reggie and Grudz were both good pickups for them. They're still only going to win like 60 games though.

Back to the original wft-ness of this thread, LaRussa is indeed batting Encarnacion and his career OBP of .316 second because of "danger".

He likes a guy who brings "danger" to the two hole. I love vague baseball terms.

Wow. What happened to the manic genius of La Russa? This is downright Dusty-esque.
