Why can't they beat up on the division? @ GB is winnable, Detroit @ home is winnable, and playing in Minnesota in their coaches third game at the helm is winnable. The toughest game might be @ Detroit late in the year, but if they are out of it by then, that could be a pushover.

I think they have a chance to be 3-0 heading into the Seattle game, they should be no worse than 2-1. They could be 5-1 heading into the bye week, without luck. Then they get the 49ers at home coming off the bye. Miami at home is tough, but winnable. The three straight road games is tough, but it's nice to have the Jets in the middle.

I think they should be 6-5 or better heading into the week 13 matchup against Minnesota. Then it's a matter of finishing off that last stretch, with 3 home games, including against Tampa in the middle of December.

My faulty memory again...I had it in my head that we'd gotten a lot of our division games done early in 05, but looking back at the schedule it was actually pretty well spread out.

I really oughta research before my posts instead of after....heh... :P

Anyone else find it funny/cool that we play in the Meadowlands in 2 consecutive weeks vs. the Giants and the Jets. That will save on travel, they can just chill in NYC for the week.

How the heck did Arizona get on MNF?

MNF isn't the big deal matchup anymore. Sunday Nights will be the featured NFL matchups of the week now.

Still not sure why they would choose that game... Arizona got the Edge... I guess... :?:

Todd McShay from Scouts, Inc. on ESPN Insider has the Bears drafting in the 1st & 2nd rounds:

26. Chicago Bears (11-5)

Top five needs: CB, TE, SLB, OT, DT

The pick: +Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State

Charles Tillman is coming off a shoulder injury, unrestricted free agent Jerry Azumah isn't expected back and free-agent signee Dante Wesley isn't an every-down corner. Keeping that in mind, the Bears need a corner who can push for playing time opposite Nathan Vasher. Youboty is inconsistent and will give up some big plays when left on an island. However, he has good top-end speed, has the frame to get bigger and has good short-area man-to-man cover skills.

Edge, a new stadium? Now all they need is a QB an O-line, a defense, and a new coaching staff.

I find it very cool that I'll be able to attend back to back Bears games for the first time in my life. Although the Meadowlands ain't that cool. The question is, do I road trip up to Foxboro to see the third straight? And of those 3 games, how many, if any, will be moved to primetime Sunday night?

The favorites to move to the night game on those 3 nights will probably be:

Week 10:

Chi @ NYG (assuming both teams are good)

NYJ @ NE

WAS @ PHI

DEN @ OAK

Week 11:

IND @ DAL

MIN @ MIA (culpepper vs former team)

OAK @ KC

PIT @ CLE

SD @ DEN

Week 12:

CHI @ NE

PHI @ IND

PIT @ BAL

OAK @ SD

I think there's a good chance at least one of those three road games moves to Sunday night.

Don't knock the stadium. The field is on a giant conveyor belt so they can move it out of the dome to get sunlight between games. Oh, what an age we live in.

I can't believe they gave in to the aluminum lobby, though.

Fasano. Interesting.

I don't see how we need a CB in the first round. Everyone blasts Tillman. Nobody covers Smith 1-on-1. Nobody. Put Vasher on him, same result. Tillman actually had his most productive year as a pro stats-wise.

I'd *definitely* draft a corner, don't get me wrong. But not in the first round. I'd go playmaker in the 1st-----a TE or field-stretching WR.

Remember, neither of our CBs were first rounders. One of them just made the pro bowl (I think Vasher was a 4th round pick!). So, why spend all that cash on a CB when you need offense? I guess I'm just perplexed why everyone is just buying into this idea so easily. We need offense much, much more than D.

I dont know if we have the easiest schedule. We have some very easy game in our schedule, but were still playing SEA, NE, and MIA which are all gonna be good teams this year. I dont know I havent seen other teams schedules so I can really make a decision.

In today's NFL, teams change so much from year to year that the pre-season strength of schedule analysis based on the previous season's performance is pretty useless.

Bears | R. Manning to visit

Wed, 12 Apr 2006 16:18:10 -0700

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports restricted free agent CB Ricky Manning Jr. (Panthers) is visiting with the Chicago Bears and could soon receive an offer sheet from the team. The Panthers would have the ability to match any offer sheet given to Manning or they would receive a third-round draft choice as compensation.

Look, I still have a lot of man-love left for Ricky Manning because he made an inhuman one-handed INT against STL in the 03 playoffs to set up the greatest football moment of my life (the Smith TD) and because he picked Philly 3 more times the following week.

But the guy just can't cover receivers all that well. If you get Manning as a nickelback he'd be good, but if he's your 2nd corner you might be in trouble.

I think he doesn't have a shot of cracking the starting lineup but will be the primary nickelback, if he comes.

I agree. He would be a nickel back for the Bruins behind Tillman and Vasher.

Bears | Team working on a long-term deal with L. Briggs

Thu, 13 Apr 2006 21:36:50 -0700

K.C. Johnson and John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, report the Chicago Bears met Thursday, April 13, with agent Drew Rosenhaus to discuss a long-term deal for Bears LB Lance Briggs. The Bears are optimistic a deal will be reached. Rosenhaus remained in Chicago overnight and will continue to work with general manager Jerry Angelo on a deal that could be announced Friday, April 14. Briggs has one year remaining on his original four-year deal that he signed after the Bears made him a third-round pick in 2003.
