Seriously, I would not be upset if the Bears traded up and drafted D'Brickashaw Ferguson. I have never wanted a player for him name this much since World B. Free

Good luck trading up into the top 5.

New Orleans should trade down. No top pick will want to sign him them.

We don't have enough to trade up though. Unless you want to trade multiple picks from next year's draft (like the 1st and 2nd rounders).

If they sign Young they better put him at wide reciever or get the best QB coach they can find b/c right now he is not pro QB material. He is the most overhyped QB to come out since Lief. Different game but same QB talent.

You mean Ryan Leaf, right? I was thinking the along the same lines, he had his TE wide open all night vs. USC yet, I don't believe he managed to hit him once in stride. It seemed every pass was fluttering and without much accuracy. Sure, he showed great leadership and tremendous poise but, all he did effectively was run the ball (behind a pretty terrific OL). If running is all he brings to NFL, he won't last long.

A pass catching TE won't make much of a difference on this team. A dominant TE like Gates would help, but I don't think any of these draftees are anything like that. This offence is going to be mediocre with or without a good TE. The current crop of TE's failures have more to do with the offense and the QB's than their lack of ability. A good hands TE isn't going to help out on 3rd and long anymore than a good WR would.

Make this defense dominant, and address the depth of both lines. You can plug in about 90% of the TE in the league and get the same result.

Heath Miller grades out similarly to these players and he has had a very large impact to the Steelers this year once incorporated into the offense. He torched the Colts in the first half on Sunday. Their passing game had more impact (albiet slightly) than last year despite losing their second most productive receiver and injuries to Big Ben. Was this due in some part to Ben's continual development? Sure, but you can not underestimate the impact that Miller has had on that offense.

I think a pass catching TE would add a much needed dimention to this team. Simply put, our TE's are a black hole and pose almost no threat to to anyone in any situation. In my mind that's the place where our offense can be improved instantly.

I guess we'll agree to disagree here. This is a good/deep TE draft and I wouldn't be upset if we picked one in the first or second round.

I wouldn't be upset either, I just wish they didn't have to spend a 1st round pick on a TE.

A couple of questions (having not read the entire thread):

1. Why do they need a kicker? Wasn't Robbie Gould pretty good?

2. What do people think of Alan Zemaitis as a pro prospect?

Gould was not good. He provided a little more depth than Brien and a little more stability as well, but he isn't any good at kicking FG. He hit only 77.8%, and was only 3/8 from beyond 39 yards. Most guys even behing him on the conversion list were greater threats from distance.

Zemaitis could be a decent safety in the pros, I don't think he's got much of a chance to be a top flight CB.

gould was okay, but he's not the answer at K.

I like Zemaitis. Good size. Decent speed. He may be a good choice end of round 2 if he's still there.

I thought gould was better. my bad.

You think Zemaitis lacks the speed?

I would say that (This is pretty preliminary considering no one has worked out yet) that Vernon Davis grades higher than Miller and Pope, Lewis and Fasano are around Miller's range. Higher or lower depending who you talk to.

I think Z lacks the speed, quickness and cover ability to be a top flight corner, but he could still be a pretty good pro, possibly at safety or as a nickel back.

I don't think Fasano grades out Miller's range, but yeah, I'd rate Davis ahead of Miller and Pope and Marcedes about equal.

I also think he's more of a second rounder but I included him because Kiper has him being picked directly after us and ahead of where Miller was picked last year.

Some dude at footballsfuture:

"At 223 lbs, with excellent speed, Archuleta was at his best in Lovie Smith's scheme, focusing more on attacking the ball, and less on maintaining his positioning. Under new Def Coordinator Joe Vitt, more focus was put on the zone, and Archuleta was left in open space while less talented players attempted to make plays across the field.

I like Chicago as a sleeper to get Archuleta at a slight discount. When Mike Brown and Chris Harris went down late in the year, backups Mike Green and Todd Johnson were exposed for their limitations. While Harris was a revelation as a rookie, the chance to upgrade with Archuleta would be too much to pass up. A former Lovie Smith disciple, Archuleta is a smaller version of Urlacher who would team with the Defensive Player of the Year to send more than one ball carrier to the IR next season."

Harris as a nickelback?

I think Harris isn't fast enough to be nickle back. His best qualities, hitting like a freight train and being a ball hawk are best used at Saftey.

I thought Harris played extremely well and most of his deficencies were rookish things like being out of position and poor recognition leading him to show up a little late at times.

Ugh...no. To both of those ideas.
