Veteran reliever Jeff Nelson has agreed to terms with the St. Louis Cardinals on a minor-league contract that will pay him $800,000 if he makes the big-league club out of spring training, a baseball source told ESPN.com. Incentives could push the deal to more than $1 million.

Looper and Nelson to replace Tavarez and King....bleech....( I know the Cards signed Rincon, but Ricardo is better then Nelson,King and Looper, and stand below Taverez). You'd better hope there is still some pixy dust left in Duncan's arsenal. I don't know why the Cards just make Marquis the set-up guy. He better then Looper and Nelson.

He actually was pretty good last year against righties, and with Larussas use of bullpen guys and mixing and matching them. I think there is a chance he could have a pretty solid season. His era last year against righties was under 2.00 and he gave up only 1 home run and 19 hits too righties. He has a 1.34 whip and righties only slugged .247 last year against him. If he is used the right way he can still be an effective reliever.
