Anyway, I think they trade the pick, so how about this. If the Texans draft Bush, I'll use the avatar of your choice for a month, and if they trade the pick, you do likewise?

OK, you're on. What if they use the pick on someone other than Bush though? Then we're both wrong. I am not going to consider this scenario as being possible unless Young turns pro, however.

I remember when Zipdog told me that Texas just signed a kid that he thought was going to be as good as McNabb and it was Vince Young. He called it. I have to wonder how McNabb would have done if he played for a team like Texas. Of course, he wouldn't have had Harrison and Kevin Johnson to throw to but he would have had a wonderful offensive line at Texas which I think was really underrated.

I'm not sure they were underrated. They were the top ranked o-line in the coutnry before the season, had several all-american's on the the line, and all 5 of them are expected to be drafted into the nfl.

What I mean is that they don't get the press/credit the others (Young, Lienhart, Bush and even White) are getting.

Granted Young had a great game but, one has to consider the fantastic O-Line he had, simply tremendous, for that matter so was USC'. Should Young declare for NFL and the Texans draft him that very well may be a recipe for disaster. I don't have the numbers in front of me but, wasn't Carr the most sacked QB in the League the last two seasons? Putting Young behind such line? RIP Mr. Young. NFL teams are going to dare him to pass the ball and play the scramble, he'll get destroyed. Edited by gflore34

Maybe that's why he's sacked so often!

I think that the Texans need a mobile QB with that line. Either that or get some better linemen.

I think they should trade down and try to get as many 2nd and 3rd round picks as possible, so they can stock up on lineman and build the team. They aren't a player away from success.

I think they could get a 1st and 2nd round for their first pick, possibly 2 first and a second.

What did the Chargers get when they traded thier first picks (in 2001 and 2004)?

2001 - 5th pick (Tomlinson), a 2nd round pick (Reche Caldwell), and Tim Dwight (worked out pretty darn well, I think)

2004 - 4th pick (Rivers), a 3rd round pick (Nate Kaeding), Giants' 1st and 5th rounders in 2005 (TBD, I think)

Interesting note: both trades involved former Hawkeyes.

Didn't they use their first pick in 2004 to draft Eli Manning only to trade him to the Giants for David Rivers?

Question answered, guess I was slow on the draw.

Giants first round pick last year was #12. They selected Shawn Merriman. Not bad.

I think that if they traded the pick they could get a deal similar to that, probably even better since Bush, Lienart, and Young have been hyped a lot more than Eli was.

I think they could probably do much better. Any team that is extremely desperate for a RB is salivating over getting someone like Bush, and anyone desperate for a QB will have to pick before the Saints. Unlike Corso and Herbie, I don't think there will be more than 1 QB in the first 5 or so. I think you'll see 5 of these go first:

Bush, Leinart, Hawk, Ferguson (Virginia), Mario Williams, DeAngelo Williams, Ngata. Call me a homer, but I think Chad Greenway could sneak into the top 5 with a good combine.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no way he is going in the top 5.

Greenway is currently the 3rd rated OLB in the draft, so for him to sneak into the top 5, he's going to have to jump Hawk and Ryans, which will be pretty tough.

Call me a homer, but I think the Texans might draft Michael Robinson first overall and put him at QB.
