This saga is tough to follow for someone who has been out of the news loop for the past week.

Can anyone summarize the 'reported' deals? I've read at least 4 different flavors of this Tejada/Prior thing, and I haven't been able to distinguish the fan suggestions from reported names and offers.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat as you. But I just got done reading over the last 5-10 pages. Basically Levine reported this morning that The cubs have given the O's a definative offer, and it is up to the O's to accept or reject. That deal being Tejada and Bedard for Prior, hill, and patterson.

Now, I am busy getting my riot gear together.

Like I said earlier:

Bruce Levine has essentially said that the Cubs have made the offer and are waiting for the O's to respond.

In other news, Goony has been seen walking on N. Michigan Ave. near the Trib Tower, mumbling to himself.

:protest:

Haha, i read that.

I really hope this doesnt go through. Prior + Leo...woooooow. Can we say Cy Young?

I saw that one, but simply couldn't believe it. The Cubs shouldn't be adding any prospects to the Prior and Patterson for Tejada and Bedard idea. Baltimore is getting the better value. They get the best player in the deal and significant salary relief in addition (at least 5 million for 2006 even after arbitration, and at least 10 million for the life of the deal assuming they hold Prior for 3 years).

Hill should be off that offer and the Cubs should be getting back another Hill calibur or better position prospect in return.

I vote we dont trade prior. Period. Doing so would turn a position of strength into one of weakness. right now we have:

Prior

Z

Wood (maybe)

Maddux

Williams/rusch/guzman

If we did that we'd have

Z

Wood (maybe)

Maddux

Williams

Rusch/guzman.

No thank you.

I think your "location" might be an apt description as well.

We'd have Bedard too. O's fans think they are getting shafted in that proposed deal. They want something like Prior + Pie/Murton for Tejada or Prior + Pie + Hill + Cedeno for Tejada and Bedard.

Bedard would be slotted with Williams, hardly anything to solidify your rotation. O's fans are delusional. 8 straight sub .500 seasons makes you silly.

And that is because they overvalue Tejada. I don't care what the perception is around baseball message boards, Prior is better than Tejada. Prior may have gotten injured a few times, but Tejada is vastly overrated.

I agree. I dont know why they think they're getting shafted. Unless they think prior is "injury prone"

Unfortunately, no matter how hard I wish that you were Jim Hendry, you're not. I have a bad feeling he's panicking because of losing out on Furcal, and is going to do something so stupid, it's going to go down in the annals of Cubs history like Brock/Broglio.

This will end up being on the Worst Trades Ever list.

Someone go do something to Hendry please so he's incapacitated for the next 3 months. Just give me the crappy cubs team as is right now. I'll take it I swear I won't complain.

this is great. hendry thinks that the sox won with their offense and not with their pitching and is trying to duplicate their hitting model without any regard for the pitching staff.

Wow, what brilliant insight into the mind of a total and cmplete stranger! How did I not see this before?

Tejada in not overrated - he just doesn't fill the Cubs needs very well. The guy's VORP was ranked 12th in MLB last year.

Hey now.

But anyways. I am really hoping this is kinda like "we're going to have to give up Clement to get Nomar" situation a couple years ago. We think we're going to have to give up a big pitcher but then turn around and get our player without doing so....

Of course, Clement ended up in boston later anyways...hmm.

I agree Prior is the better player but Tejada is not "vastly overrated". For a SS to produce 6 year averages of -

.800+ OPS

118 RBI (avg)

30 HR (avg)

- is incredible. An argument for age (31) and decline may be legitimate in terms of future value. But I wouldn't call Tejada overrated against his peers at SS by a long shot.

i never thought i'd rue the day the cubs missed out on ridiculously overpaying for furcal. i'd take an overpaid furcal + prior over tejada + bedard any day.

if hendry had such a man crush on tejada, why didn't he just sign him after 2003...without having to give up prior? pretty sure prior + tejada > prior + alex gonzalez and tejada + bedard.

the good news is, after prior wins six cy youngs in the AL, the cubs can bid against themselves and sign a 38 year old prior to a stupid 3 year deal 13 years from now.

Someone did some housecleaning... :D

Haha,I was in the middle of responding to whoever wrote that we could sign him to a ridiculous 3 year deal 13 years from now.

How sick is it that I was thinking the exact same thing. But hey, look at it this way, we can see him win 300 in cubbie blue!

So does anyone else think this will be the first of 2 moves? If it goes through, The Cubs keep Bedard, and trade Tejada to the Red Sox along with CPat, or Murton for Manny and cash. Then maybe putting a package together for Zito, or try and sign Weaver. Thoughts?

No. I think if the Cubs get Tejada, they intend to keep him.

That would be even worse. I'd take Tejada over Manny.

I hope none of these deals happen. I dont want prior going anywhere.

God, this feels like the sick feeling I got when sosa got traded last year.

I don't think they have the payroll room to sign Weaver if they trade for Tejada.
