Board down tonight starting at 1am central time

Barring any completed deal that needs to be discussed, I'll be taking the board down tonight at 1am to prune old threads.

 

I have saved off a copy of the database and will be opening up a search-only (no posting) database on this or another domain. I'm thinking about putting the archives on a separate server so that those searches do not interfere with the posting on the active site.

 

Search will be re-enabled upon completion of the pruning.

 

I will be attempting to retain people's post counts as I perform the pruning, but I can't guarantee that will happen.

Yeah, well, when I tried what I was thinking of it didn't work anyway. The operation timed out when I went to do it.

 

So I've written a program that operates at the database level directly. Love brushing up on that SQL!

I am working on this again tonight and will be performing periodic activities that will be tying up the database resources.

 

Also recognize that while I'm not going to bring the board down for this, that if something goes wrong I'll have to do a restore and any new posts that occur after 9pm central will be lost.

After last year, I miss 2004 greatly.

I'm killing the first six months of 2005. Then I'll be shutting down access for awhile while the search index is being rebuilt. When that is complete, the board will have search re-enabled for premium members.

Search has been reactivated for premium members. If it doesn't cause any issues, I will re-enable it for everyone next weekend.

 

I'll also be working to put the archives back up in a searchable format in a way that it doesn't impact the normal functioning of the board.
