The Giants have acquired Steve Finley from the Angels for Edgardo Alfonzo, according to KNBR radio.

We'd take Alfonzo's limited on-base ability against the hope that Finley has anything at all left to contribute. Unless he's playing left field, something he really has no business doing, Finley will actually hurt the already bad San Francisco outfield defense. Alfonzo also seems done as a useful player, though as a pinch-hitter, he probably wouldn't be bad. Assuming that neither player takes on any kind of a key role on his new team, there's little harm to the swap.

Somehow, SF beats the odds and even though I thought it was impossble for them to get older, they do it.

Finley, Bonds, and Alou.

That is one old outfield. Do you think they'll all go out to supper together before games to get the "early bird discount"?

Wow, that is just nuts. You would think that half their team will break down during a onth into the season because of their age. Is their GM Sabean younger than these guys?

Can anyone here recall a worse defensive outfield? It might be on the short list of the very worst in history.

Come on. How much older can this team get? Does Sabean not believe in having players under the age of 38 on that team? Boy Dusty would be a perfect fit back in San Fran now. He'd be in high heaven.

Didn't they resign Randy Winn too? :-k

Yes, the did, and Winn is clearly the better player right now. Which means....Finley is the league's MOST expensive bench player at $7 million. Nonetheless, why did Sabean go after Finley, when Rickey Henderson was still available? At this stage, I would clearly take Rickey Henderson available? What Sabean couldn't convince Devon White, Goodwin and Goodwin (Tom and Curtis) to come play for the Giants? Was the local AARP out for lunch, and Sabean wasn't patient enough?

Anybody who EVER consider Sabean a "genius" is borderline nutso.

"Cocaine" Otis Nixon should be still around right? I mean if Hendry doesn't want him for RF.
