Jacque Jones

Your Realistic 2006 Lineup:

1. Pierre

2. Walker

3. Lee

4. Aram

5. Jones

6. Barrett

7. Murton

8. Cedeno

Rotation:

1. Zambrano

2. Prior

3. Maddux

4. Wood

5. Hill

That's my best guess as to what Hendry will do. I do not see any more 'big trades' for the Cubs coming. I see a fw more bench signings, and the last 'big' free agent signing, (if that's what it's called), will be Jacque Jones.

I would rather throw out one of Dusty's used wrist bands than Jones.

Don't we have enough French sounding names who cannot hit for power out there already?

Look, I am not trying to piss anyone off.

I know the Cubs have much more money than they have spent thus far.

The only other option I could see, is the Cubs sending the farm to Tampa Bay for Lugo and Huff.... I wouldn't be opposed to that deal, but just don't see it happening.

I would not be at all happy with the initial porposal I came up with, just see it as the most realistic...

The Reds are not parting with Kearns or Dunn - The reason they dealt Casey.

Wilkerson will be a Blue Jay or will stay a Ranger

I don't think Baker came away from his meeting with Bradley at all impressed, or I feel he would be a Cub by now.

It'll be Huff in RF or Jones. And I believe Hendry will not meet their demands for Huff/Lugo, and will go Cedeno at Short, and will sign Jones to RF.

I think you are right about the meeting with Bradley.

Corey Patterson will be our starting RF in 2006.

I just don't see J.H going out and making any more deals this off season.

1. Pierre (CF)

2. Walker (2B)

3. Lee (1B)

4. Aram (3B)

5. Murton (LF)

6. Barrett ©

7. Patterson (RF)

8. Cedeno (SS)

No possible way. They will make more deals, the question is if they will be any good. I think Jones is the front runner for RF, and I could see Jones and Mench being the last two pieces of Hendry's offseason pie.

I still think Hendry will answer rightfield via the trade market. If he could get Jones on a one-year deal, I could see him going that route, but Hendry likely thinks the following:

1. Felix Pie could be ready in 2007. 2. Matt Murton will be here in 2007. 3. I want to keep Juan Pierre beyond this season.

With those three ideas, I don't think he's going to be easily married to an outfielder unless it is one he thinks is worth the effort. For that reason, I think he will consider Jones only after all other avenues have been exhausted.

Right now, teams are still sorting out options. The premiere free agents are off the market, but teams are still shopping. I believe once Matt Morris goes to S.F. and Washburn and Weaver sign, Texas may be willing to trade either Wilkerson or Mench in a package that includes Jerome Williams.

I still think Seattle could change its mind about Ibanez.

The Dodgers are still trying to drive up the price for Bradley, but will likely move him in the next 9 days.

Arizona will move either a corner outfielder or infielder, so that's somewhere to watch as well.

I think there are still a number of options via trade that are more attractive than the left-over free agents who will want too much money for too many years.

Don't try to reverse jinx us. You know it's Jones or Preston Wilson.

Vance, one thing that might be in our favor is that Seattle is one of the other suitors for Huff.

Assuming that Seattle signs Crazy Carl (as has been rumored), if they were to acquire Huff, they wouldn't have any room for Ibanez.

That could open things up for Ibanez to the Cubs.

I'm with Lefty.

Realistically speaking, I'll bet the opening lineup looks like this:

CF Pierre

2B Perez

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF Wilson

C Barrett

LF Murton

SS Cedeno

At which point I will cease being a Cubs fan. Go Mariners!

Especially considering it could EASILY have been this:

2B: Castillo

CF: Wilkerson

1B: Lee

RF: Green

3B: Ramirez

LF: Murton

C: Barrett

SS: Cedeno

That's a run-scoring machine

Realistically, I think we end up with Huff. I'll assume that Bradley will still be coming to the Cubs as well, likely for Hairston or Patterson.

Pierre, Bradley, Lee, Ramirez, Huff, Barrett, Walker, Cedeno

Murton plays against lefties. Neifi plays whenever Dusty feels Cedeno will be outmatched, which will probably be everyday after the first week.

If Ramirez needs a day off, Huff can play there. If Lee needs a day off, Huff can play there. Each game Huff plays 3rd or 1st is more opportunities for Murton to showcase what he can do against RH pitching, as well as pinch hit situations.

I'd actually prefer that they hang on to Patterson if at all possible. I just don't see any reason to give him away if nothing is all he is worth. He offers good defensive protection late in games, speed on the bases if Barrett or Huff gets a hit in a close and late situation, and if he figures out what his problem is at the plate, he could win back a starting job or even make someone else available at the trade deadline.

huff's numbers are eerily similar to burnitz's. the only thing huff offers is his ability to play the corner IF positions, albeit poorly. burnitz's defense in RF is worth more than what huff can offer in the IF probably, anyway.

I think there's very little chance we get both Huff and Bradley. Call me the pessimist, but I'm hoping against hope for one of Huff, Wilkerson or Bradley.

If Patterson is in the outfield, he better play CF and Pierre better get RF with his poor defense and noodle arm. Why would anyone want to put him in CF with Cpatt? CPatt's great defense would go to waste.

Why would you put the worst arm in RF where it would hurt you the most?

You're absolutely right. The lineup proposed in this thread is significantly under Hendry's budget.

realistically, i don't see the cubs getting anyone in right. likely, i see mabry and patterson splitting time there.

Of course they will. Hendry has nearly another 20 million dollars to spend. There's no chance that he stands pat.

I think that the cubs really dont have many options for a premier Proven right field bat, so with that in mind, i think going after either a MLB Ready prospect that isnt too touted but could be productive, or a project like Milton Bradley is the only way to go, but for 1 year. I think Hendry really thinks the Corner outfield will consist of Pie, Murton, and a FA/Trade Acquisition in the next offseason. With that in mind, since we wont be allocating many dollars to RF for 06, i think acquiring an innings eating, consistent could be a nice luxury sign, since Wood will not be starting opening day apparently. I would love to sign Washburn or Millwood to a reasonable deal without too many years (3 for 20 mil). I dont know if i would have been satisfied with this team at the beginning of this offseason, but it leaves plenty of financial freedom to acquire someone at the deadline.
