Bruce Levine on ESPN Radio says that the Tejada talk is very real and that the Cubs are ready to go. I won't mention, however, what he says the Cubs might be willing to give up...

:ohnoes:

Go ahead. We can take it.

OK, anyone else out there hear this for cryin out loud???

Sorry for the delay, cpu issue:

Patterson, Williams, Hill, Cedeno, and Guzman.

I'd try to keep Williams and then call it a done deal.

Am I the only one that says "no thanks" to this deal? I would rather trade for a good RF and leave Cedeno at SS. Tejadas power can be had from the OF spot. Probably cheaper too.

I might be able to live with that, but would like to keep either Cedeno or one of the pitchers who can help this year, Hill or Williams.

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Tejada

RF - even a Jones/Wilson/Encarnacion on the cheap

Barrett

Murton

Would be a pretty good lineup.

I don't see the Cubs getting Tejada's numbers from the OF spot, because I see them getting Jones/Wilson/Encarnacion (or similar) whenever they actually get around to signing a RF.

I think I'd do that even if Williams was included.

I'm not sure that I would because that leaves us pretty empty is the starting pitching department. With our staff, we have to have capable starters ready to fill in if need be.

According to Levine it would cost...

Hill, KPat, Williams, Cedeno, and Guzman

We would have to get some prospect back with Tejada, right?! That's just ridiculous!

Apologies for the drama; unavoidable issue.

Now that the dogs have been called off, I guess my problem is giving up our two best picthing prospects on top of Williams and Cedeno. I'd hope we are getting back Gibbons and a young pitcher in addition to Tejada if this is the deal.

If we do that deal for Tejada, we still have the money either to sign a lukewarm rigthfielder Encarnacion or sign another pitcher, Weaver or Washburn.

I'd make the deal. Lee, Ramirez, Tejada would be a formidable middle of the line-up no matter how you stack them.

The deal seems like there are a lot of names invloved, but it make sense for the O's. They get a CF with some potential upside, 2 stud minor league pitchers, a major league pitcher with a good arm, and a suitable SS replacement. While Cedeno won't put up Tejada numbers, he is not Neifi.

What was everyone else thinking we would be giving up? I mean Tejada is one of the best, if not the best, SS in the game?

I would be happy with giving up those guys. The questions is do we have money to get an adequate RF? I do not think Encarnacion or Jones would fit the bill. Would getting Tejada offset the bunk we would through out there in RF?

*Insert Rant about Tejada not worth selling the farm over, and leaving us with no trading chips here*

It does feel sort of like we are emptying the shelves, doesn't it?

That's what I'm expecting too.

By the way...who is KPat?

The oft used nickname refering to Corey's tendencies at the plate...

Thanks....I was just making sure it wasn't the EPatt version.

The dilemma would be that they could sign either a Weaver/Washburn #4 caliber starter, or a body for RF. IIRC, they can only sign one more type A free-agent, and then they'll have to trade for the other spot. Who is left to be traded? Walker? The cupboard would be bare, and gaping holes still exist. If Wood opens the season hurt, who becomes the #5 starter - Wellemeyer? Koronka? And the RF situation needs no elaboration.

Let me get this straight. For a former MVP and currently the best shortstop in baseball we give up:

Hill (unproven but a lot of potential)

Patterson (so far a failure)

Williams (5th starter at best)

Cedeno (unproven but a lot of potential)

Guzman (potential but appears injury prone)

I'd do that trade in a second.

Best case yet. Guzman won't have value for much longer with his injury issues, Patterson has no value, Rich Hill is unlikely to make an impact with the Cubs anyway due to Hendry's love affair with Rusch, Williams has upside but he's tradeable, and Cedeno has potential but is worth giving up for Tejada.

If that's really what's on the table, then I'd expect the deal done by the end of tomorrow.

I'd love to see Miggy on the Cubs next season, but giving up all those prospects really leaves us strapped for additional moves. Hendry's already admitted he's looking for both another SP and a RF'er. Giving up all our chips but Walker really cripples us - plus, if we give up Cedeno, are we really letting Walker go and starting Neifi? Ugh, it makes me sick just to type it out.....

Anywho...if we can get Miggy for Patterson + Hill + Williams with maybe Guzman thrown in if needed... If we trade for Miggy, I don't give up Cedeno because I think Hendry has already made a final decision to not have Walker next year.
