We're overpaying in both deals.

I wouldn't trade Aram striaght up for Tejada

ARam is an average to mediocre fielder. He also is showing signs of the rap he had in Pittsburgh: out of shape, doesn't always hustle and sometimes is less than enthusiastic about playing hurt.

Blalock is an All-Star. So is Tejada.

He could DH or play 1st at Baltimore.

Ramirez is (1) a better hitter; (2) significantly younger; and (3) makes less money.

Would Tejada be a great addition? Of course, he's the best SS in baseball (now that ARod is a 3B). But he's also a bit overrated (he's never once had a .900 OPS) and will be 30 in May.

Trading Ramirez for him would be ludacrisp.

This trade was talked about on The Score this afternoon. I would not trade Tejada for Aramis. Miggy is a better shortstop option than we were entertaining previously but I do not think he is a better hitter than ARam. Edited by Blueheart05

Aramis not running hard on easy grounders because his hamstrings are sore is not indicative of any laziness, lack of hustle, or anything else like that. He absolutely needs to work on flexibility, which he is this offseason, and I'm looking forward to see Aramis in terrific shape next spring.. I'm not sure why you're saying he's les than enthusiastic about playing hurt, since he played with the bad hammys for awhile before finally pulling one badly enough to be shut down, hence the "lack of hustle". He's entering his prime years, and will be in a position to win an MVP award before the end of his current contract.

Blalock is a terrible offensive player away from Arlington. Tejada isn't as good offensively as Aramis is. That's a terrible trade. The Cubs don't get better, they get worse.

Aramir, Prior, Zambrano, Lee and Barrett are the 5 practically untouchable players on the team. You don't trade them unless you're blown away.

Trading Ramirez for Tejada is something I'd consider, but there's now way I'd trade Ramirez + all those guys for Tejada. That's reidiculous. Tejada isn't that much better a player than Ramirez to warrant throwing in Williams and Dopirak. If the Orioles want Ramirez, it would have to be Ramirez straight up for Tejada. If not, no deal.

If I did the first trade, I would probably consider the second. A better deal however might be to trade Patterson and a pitching prospect for Troy Glaus. Or...maybe expand the deal to include Glaus and Vasquez.

That trade proposal made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Even if it was A-Ram straight up for Tejada, the Cubs are a weaker team offensively.

...if you get a full season out of ARam

ARam will play in more than 162 games next season, all in a Cubs uniform. Miggy T will be next to him in every single one of those games.

They guy misses the last 6 weeks of a lost season and a handful of games in 2004 and suddenly he's injury prone enough to deal, wheras Nomar Garciaparra missed over 50% of the last two seasons, and people are wishing he was resigned. That makes no sense to me.

I cannot believe how underrated Aramis Ramirez is by some people. Everyoe forgets that on the day he got hurt, he led the Cubs in HR's, RBI, and was hitting over .300 after being bad in April and half of May. He's so good, and he's just hitting his prime.

C'mon, he's a Cards fan. He just doesn't know any better. :D

I agree with you completely. The guy's our best offensive player by quite a bit, in my opinion. And I will hold that opinion until Lee can show me that 2005 was not a fluke.

Hah yeah, you are probably right about me overrating his injury history.

pretty much an unnecesary quip, but I'll play

as if the Cardinals thirdbaseman is the picture of health. the best thing that could have happened to his knees is his shoulder injury.

Aram gets the nagging pulls that don't go away, but Rolen has two chronic knees and now a shoulder that may never be the same.
