Just a parting thought, i always thought that Sergio would end up a pitcher like a Greg Maddox, same kind of arm, maybe a little stronger, throws a lottle harder. That was always his problem, when he learns how to take off speed instead of trying to add it he will I think torment the cubs for years to come, Just my thoughts, also Nolasco has great ability, watch for him to come of age in two years.

Sergio Mitre has a great sinker. Unfortunately, he can't throw it for strikes and he has nothing else he can use to effectively control the count. If the hitters don't swing at his sinker early in the count, he falls behind and gets into trouble. If he throws his 4-seam fastball early in the count, he gets pounded.

I wish him well, though.

I'm going to follow Sergio, I was always a fan. I don't think he'll be an all-star but he will always to have the potential to have streaks like he had against the Blue Jays and ironically the Marlins. When he is on he's a blast to watch.

Good luck Surge.

I'm more disappointed in the losses of Nolasco and Pinto than Mitre from a potential standpoint. I was never a fan of Mitre (despite the heroic-like efforts of Raw, Raisin and CPatt to sway me otherwise).

Mitre has shown flashes of brilliance, but his future success will all depend on his control and development of another pitch. In spite of the Cubs affinity for drafting and developing young arms, our system doesn't seem to be doing a good job with most of them. Let's see what he can do under the Marlins coaches.

I'm really beginning to seriously doubt the effectiveness of the Cubs minor leauge development and coaching staffs.

...but we developed Mark Prior.

Zambrano and Wood don't count?

Is wood really a testament to our minor league system? he had all the talent in the world coming in and can't stay healthy b/c of mechanics, which probably should have been altered when he was younger. great job on Z. that's one solid pitcher in how many years?

How do we know that for sure? What if his bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons , etc aren't great?

All I know is that if Hill wins the 5th spot in ST then 80% of the Cubs rotation will be "home grown". Depending how things go this year with Guzman and Wood's health you could potentially have a rotation in 2007 of Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Hill and Guzman. Even if you throw out Prior the Cubs drafting and minor league system is doing a pretty good job of stocking the rotation.

I'd rather have a leadoof hitter and someone who can run. You have to give up something in a trade. None of the three will be star pitchers, most likely long relief guys.

I sorta have to agree with this. All 3 prospects seem like they have back end of the rotation upsides, which are basically a dime a dozen in the major leagues.

I wasn't particularly fond of spending the 3 prospects on a one year rental lead off guy, but at least it didn't cost prospects that have all star potential.

Someone hasn't seen the free agent starting pitching market lately.
