The Denver Post, via Rotoworld, reports that the Rockies are hot for Todd. lol

Todd Wellemeyer - R - Cubs

The Rockies continue to discuss a trade with the Cubs that would net them Todd Wellemeyer.

If he stays, Wellemeyer is unlikely to have a place in the rebuild Cubs' pen next season. Dec. 9 - 3:06 pm et

I wonder what we can get for him?

If they want him, they are welcome to him. My question is, "Why?" A guy who tends to be a FB pitcher (though barely) over his career with a generally 3:2 K/BB ratio. His K/9IP is solid, but I don't know what COL would want him for. I think Wellemeyer is a decent pitcher with possibility of being a solid middle reliever, but why would COL be interested in someone with his skill set. Then again, these guys signed Joe Table too, so...

There's a chance Wellemeyer could be a good fit for Coors Field, assuming that any pitcher could.

He really doesn't rely on his breaking ball much at all. Fastball-change. Could work OK in the light air.

Worth a flyer.

It'd be no dumber than your typical Rockie acquisition.

PTBNL will be a toolsy OF'er who is out of options and could compete for a role as a 4th OF'er, unlike Kelton this player will have played CF for all of his career.

I'll go w/Choo Freeman.

Welly walks too many batters. His control can just go on holiday! Does anybody recall the Houston (?) game where the Cubs walked 5 in the inning? It all fell apart when Welly came in. I'm not a big fan of his game.

I think we have a winner. Give that man a cupie doll.

[silver lining]But with him in the lineup, we're sure to win at least 2 out of 3 on our annual trip there.[/silver lining]

I'd go Welly for JD Closser....With Audoin and Torrealba expected to split time, and Ojeda also within the org...I think the Cubs could use a guy like Closser at AAA, and have him take over as backup catcher in 2007.
