I dont know if the O's would trade him or not, but since it was reported he wanted out, why not give the O's a call. If this rumor that hendry contacted them is true, i'd be happy he is at least checking into it. I'd offer pretty much anything for Miggy. I'd offer them something along the lines of:

Pie, Cedeno, Hill, & Dope. And I'd pay some/all of Tejada's contract too.

Cuse pointed out that something along those lines would be a good start for a young team. I think that would, if nothing else, make him give us some serious consideration

If Tejada is available, I think the following teams could afford him and would have serious interest:

1. Red Sox

2. Cubs

3. Cardinals

4. Rangers

5. Diamondbacks

6. Astros

(I don't intend for those six teams to be comprehensive, but I'm pretty sure all those teams would have some to intense interest if Tejada were truly available.)

Who could offer the better package would all depend on how badly each team wants him.

The Rangers could offer Kinsler and Mench or Kinsler and Wilkerson. The Diamondbacks could offer Quentin and Vasquez. The Astros may be willing to part with Everett, Qualls, and Backe. I think any of those teams would have interest and each could put together a package that would rival the Cubs.

That being said, Tejada isn't going anywhere. When they discussed it on MLB Live This Morning, XM 175, Buck Martinez said the Orioles response to Tejada is probably, "See you in March."

The Yankees are going to sign Nomar and then trade for Tejada. Jeter will move to CF, Tejada will play SS, Arod at 3B, and Nomar will DH.

i'd give up cedeno and pie for tejada, and then whatever else the orioles want (ie hill, williams, patterson, or dopirak--or any combination of them)

it's going to take a lot, think richie sexson.

Exactly, If we want to get him, we are most likely going to have to overpay a tad, and I'm fine with that. They dont HAVE to trade him, so they wont do it unless wowed, if at all. I'm on with sulley here, Pie & Cedeno and anything else they want.

Pie, Cedeno, Dopirak, Hill, $$$, Hendry's big toe, whatever it takes.

Okay, so wow. Tejada has a career .338 OBP  Ick?

His career ops is .815....

Thats kinda shocking.

Also kinda interesting, the last time Tejada missed a game was in 2000, when he only played 160 games  What is it about oriole shortstops?

Mets? They could move Reyes to 2B (again).

As I prefaced my comments, the list isn't comprehensive.

Yeah, I know. I just thought I'd throw them out there. They seem to be after everybody else. Did they sign Grudz yet? If so, it probably makes that less likely. Unless they trade Reyes to get Tejada.

Just throwing it out there (not sure if it's been discussed previously): Manny for Tejada straight up.

Salaries would be something of a wash. Offensive production would be similar, and it fills holes for both teams.

Thoughts?

Manny is worth 1.5 Tejada's IMO. He also makes a lot more money. But not a bad trade idea at all.

he appears to be a similar hitter to aram. and i'd take another aram in the lineup.

plus, he hasn't posted a sub .800 OPS in 7 years, which is pretty amazing for a SS who doesn't play 3rd for the yankees.

Doesn't Manny want to play out West though and not anywhere near Boston which Baltimore is what? 4-5 hours from Boston?

Not sure if he would accept a trade to Baltimore.

I believe Manny's preference is NY (Yankees, not Mets)

I don't see that happening at all. Yankees don't have enough to get him, I believe.

I think Manny wants to get as far away from Boston as he can /the reason why he wants to go out West.

Yes, he's said he only wants to go to Seattle, Anaheim, Cleveland or Arizona. Those are the places supposedly he wants to go.

Right now, I think Manny (and his agent) are trying to force Boston's hand. Manny has 10-5 rights, so he can reject any trade. He also has threatened to sit out if the Red Sox don't trade him to someplace he wants to go.

That being said, those four teams aren't interested in picking up Manny's contract and sending decent talent back to Boston. Boston won't move him unless they get an excellent return on him. While Manny may believe he can call the shots, Boston may force him to reconsider. They could work out deals to places he says he doesn't want to go and then let him decide how badly he really wants out...or they could just not trade him and see if he'll really walk away from 20+ million as well as forfeit part of his signing bonus.

Oh, I know that won't happen (unless the Yankees will send back ARod and Jeter and pay their salaries). I'm just saying that's what his preference is.

It was mentioned earlier on another board that "xm radio has reported that the Cubs have contacted the Orioles about Miguel Tejada".

--If this is true, it's nice to see Jimbo at least inquiring about him.

Believing something posted on an ESPN message board will get you nowhere in a hurry. Unless many actually heard XM report this, I'm guessing there is not a lot of truth there.

I heard it on XM, as well. Not sure how valid it is, but I did hear them mention it.

Allright well this is good, at least we know it was mentioned, which means it is probably valid that we at least contacted them. THis is definatley good new.

The only thing I heard (XM radio-MLB Home Plate) Dibble and Kennedy talk about Tejada was that Boston would be a great trade partner since Boston had traded Renteria. I believe it was a Cubs fan called in and asked if they thought the Cubs could make a move for him. They said its gonna take a ton and it would be a good fit. Only thing is the Cubs have a good, cheap glove already at SS in Perez.

Neifi is a good glove. But no glove is worth $2.5m per year.

Hearing all this talk about giving up all sorts of high-end talent for Tejada is reminding me all over again how stupid it was not to sign him 2 years ago. He should have been the number one priority that summer, and we didn't even get into the bidding (if I remember correctly).

This has nothing to do with whether or not at this point we should part with Pie or Hill or whoever to get him.

I'm just sayin'....

Maybe this is a rant.

I agree with your statement.

Thats what Kennedy said on the program.

I for one fear Perez is gonna be the starter at short.

I seriously doubt the Bosox get Tejada, since the O's are a team very reluctant on trading to their divisional powers because of Angelos' animosity against Boston and New York. Angelos isn't that stupid. Yes, the Nats are stealing into his fan base, but the Nats are still not that popular in the DC area. Most of their fan support comes from Virginia. I honestly believe the only teams who can afford Tejada and give Baltimore what they want are the Cubs and Mets. Hendry should be offering Baltimore what ever prospect he wants for Tejada, excluding Pie. I'm perfectly fine with giving up Cedeno, who may or may not pan out.

I doubt Perez starts at short, unless we somehow get a good RF. We still have wholes in our offense, and Cedeno can at least hit better than Perez, while having roughly the same glove. I believe Perez was signed as a reserve (albeit way overpriced), in case our team decides to collectively get injured again.

Hendry has hinted that he wanted Cedeno starting, but ugh, Its dusty man. Besides, When you might even have the SLIGHTEST chance of getting A guy like Tejada, you try.

I'm just reoeating what I heard. Nothing more.

=D> And I agree. Give them Pia, Cedeno, and a couple of others. Z, Prior, Lee and ARam are my only untouchables.
