It was mentioned earlier on another board that "xm radio has reported that the Cubs have contacted the Orioles about Miguel Tejada".

--If this is true, it's nice to see Jimbo at least inquiring about him.

Believing something posted on an ESPN message board will get you nowhere in a hurry. Unless many actually heard XM report this, I'm guessing there is not a lot of truth there.

Well, it was posted by an Orioles fan at the O's board at least. I also would like to hear corroboration though.

You beat me to it. Can't believe much said on ESPN message boards. About as good as Cubs.com message board. I doubt it's true.

Same here. I'd piddle myself if Hendry made a push unless Prior or Z were offered.

If an Orioles fan posted it and not a Cubs fan, I'm inclined to believe it. It would seem to be a no-brain move to at least contact about Tejada just to gauge what it would take. After all, SS is one of our positions we could use an upgrade at.

I'm sure about half the teams in MLB have contacted the Orioles. I still suspect that Miguel will not be traded.

Regardless, of what people think, I believe the Cubs have enough to tempt the Orioles (Pie, Cedeno to begin with) into moving Tejada. But a couple of questions would have to be asked:

1: Even with Tejada requesting to be dealt, does Baltimore have the courage to move the current face of the franchise?

2: If they do contemplate moving Tejada, will this be vindication for Tejada and and justified Tejada's comment, that the Orioles lack a "direction?"

3: With the Nats having a great first season in the area, and Orioles coming off a very rough season, does the mini-Steinbrenner---Angelos---wants to alienated more fans by moving Tejada, which in turn would drive "Orioles fans" into the arms of the Nationals?

I do think it is a long shot for the Orioles to move Tejada, but I do believe if they are going to move him, the Cubs do have enough to tempt him. The biggest "rival" for Tejada would be the Mets. I mean Reyes (Cedeno), Milledge (Pie), Nady (Dopirak) would be just as equally as tempting as the Cubs offer. But it doesn't hurt to ask.....

With no names on the cubs side mentioned, there's no reason to disbelieve it. you'd be a fool not to see what the starting point on tejada talks were, especially while sitting on a bunch of cash
Posted
The only difference between Reyes and Cedeno is that the Mets are banking on him while the Cubs don't seem to be banking on Cedeno. I think the Cubs would jump on that offer before the Mets jump on trading Reyes.

I would check on it, but I don't think I'd give up Cedeno. I would however, give up Patterson, and our best pitching prospect.

What makes you think the Orioles would take a tool-less 5 tool player and the best pitching prospect we have for one of the top SS in the game? I think Cedeno is a necessity for Baltimore if a deal like this happens.

To help in my defense I'm drunk, and I really like Cedeno.

you're drunk and you "really" like Cedeno?

In a scense that he's a good ball player. Get your mind out of the gutter. Anyway, I was impressed with the Ba, in both AAA, and MLB. I think given the proper opportunity he could be incredible.

Oh please, I was joking.

I like Cedeno, but I'd rather have Tejada. And if we were getting Tejada, there's no reason to keep Cedeno besides putting him at 2B, which doesn't seem likely.

I know you were joking. I would just rather have Cedeno while he's cheap, then paying him a lot of money later on in his career.

But what if Cedeno doesn't work out? Most situations I'm all for giving the younger guy a chance, but we don't know what to expect out of Cedeno. He's hardly been scouted at the major league level yet, and if a deal for Tejada arose, and it required Cedeno, I'm all for it. Depending on the other players, of course.

True...and the Mets offer would lived them with KAZ MATSUI (or Grudzielanek, if he signs) as leadoff, and that would be very mediocre. I'm just saying the Mets are the only team that I see that could rival the Cubs, in terms of being able to absorb the contract, and offer the right young players (and no Baltimore wouldn't trade Miggy to Boston). So Baltimore would have to weigh possibly alienating their fan base .v. getting rid of a possible "problem." But considering who they HAD in 2005, I bet there is nothing Tejada could do that would embarrass the Orioles, the way Palmeiro and Sosa embarrass the team.

Cedeno, Patterson, Hill, and one of Sing, Harvey, or Dopriak plus cash.

I would for sure do that but I think it's going to cost you a little bit more. I'd guess it would take something like Cedeno, Pie, and Hill. Something that would be hard for me to do as Jim Hendry, but I would probably do it. I'm not too convinced by Hill and I can see Pie not turning out as well as we want.

If Tejada is available, I think the following teams could afford him and would have serious interest:

1. Red Sox

2. Cubs

3. Cardinals

4. Rangers

5. Diamondbacks

6. Astros

(I don't intend for those six teams to be comprehensive, but I'm pretty sure all those teams would have some to intense interest if Tejada were truly available.)

Who could offer the better package would all depend on how badly each team wants him.

The Rangers could offer Kinsler and Mench or Kinsler and Wilkerson. The Diamondbacks could offer Quentin and Vasquez. The Astros may be willing to part with Everett, Qualls, and Backe. I think any of those teams would have interest and each could put together a package that would rival the Cubs.

That being said, Tejada isn't going anywhere. When they discussed it on MLB Live This Morning, XM 175, Buck Martinez said the Orioles response to Tejada is probably, "See you in March."

Mets? They could move Reyes to 2B (again).
