ESPN is reporting on the Hotlist that Dusty Baker admitted the Cubs do not expect Kerry Wood to be ready for the 2006 season opener. Bummer, looks like Larry Rothschild knew what he was talking about.

In March:

Wood will miss April.

In April:

Wood will miss May and part of June.

In May:

Wood is gone till the All-Star break.

We know how this process goes.

If only he knew what he was talking about during the season when they should have shut him down.

Why the mother****** g** damn hell did they have him pitching out of the bull pen when they were out of the race, nevertheless a DAY BEFORE HE WAS GOING TO HAVE SURGERY?

Everyone who had anything to do with this decision should be fired immediately.

Why in the world is Dusty commenting on these things in the first place? Isn't this the organization's responsibility to comment on things like this? Like Dusty has been personally monitoring his rehab? Why does Dusty have to comment on every single topic under the sun.. Sorry to rant, but I can't stand managers/coaches, etc. who always have to be the center of attention and Dusty is a PRIME example of this.

Not to mention the fact that here's another season with Woody as a huge question mark.. :(

Are you FN kidding me...if we know in December that he's not going to be ready for the season opener then it must be bad enough that he won't be ready for a month or so after that even...that's the very last straw...the last one...I'm done with him. Sorry Kerry, you had my hopes up for 6 years now...I've said "When Wood gets healthy" about 400 times.

Screw it. Just give me a guy who can put up a quality start and throw 200 innings a year...I don't care if his name is Steve Traschel or Jeff Suppan, I'm just tired of this constant injury crap.

I bet they are just saying this to be cautious...Unless he has a setback in ST I'll bet he will be close that first week or so...Of course I wouldn't use my money to bet with....

Yes, the organization bears no blame in how they handled Kerry last year.

"Hi I'm Kerry Wood, I want to remain injuried and pitch in meaningless games to screw my next season, and possibly my career up, just to piss off Cubs fans that have held hope in me"

I never said they didn't....and I'm fairly sure I could have done with out the eye rolls...the organizations use of him doesn't change the fact that he's pitched 2 full seasons out of the last 8.

Kerry's mechanics have more to do with his injury problems than his use.

And he should just go tinker around with the mechanics he's used since he was boy, on his own, with absolutely no direction from anyone, so that his arm completely falls off and he has no future at all?

MAn I wish Steve Stone never opened his stupid mouth about the "mechanics". IT's like a catch phrase now.

Sorry, but I don't want Wood just tinkiering around with his own mechanics, he's not a trainer, a physician or a pitching coach. If there are problems, then someone else should/ should have help(ed) him, somewhere along the line.

Kerry is one of the biggest gamers, out there, and I respect him a ton. It's a shame what's happening to him. I don't think he wants to make 12 million and not help this team. His committment and dedication to the Cubs should not be up for debate. I don't think he wants to be injured, it pisses me off when people blame kerry for his injuries.

If he's been pitching like that since he was little and he keeps getting hurt, how is it such a leap of faith to say he should change his mechanics?

Let me to you this, as someone who has arm problems from bowling, (please do not laugh) my mechanics have been the same since I was around 12 years old. No doubt that it is VERY difficult to change how you do something, but I believe if I were to change my style, my injuries would gradually go away.

Also, who is saying that Wood should have no direction with his change in mechanics? Because if they are saying that, they are wrong.

Ok, can anyone truly say they DIDN'T see this coming last year when they pitched him out of the pen. Good lord this team is (bleeping) stupid.

Dusty, I hate you with the fire of 1,000 suns.

Kerry, as soon as your contract is up, bail to an organization who knows what the heck it's doing.

And now the price tag on any FA pitcher that the Cubs have their eyes on has just raised tremendously, because now everyone knows how desperate this team is.

Say hello to overpaying for Milwood or Washburn, guys.

First off. I never blamed Kerry for his problem, I just said I was tired of waiting for it to get fixed and hanging hopes on him.

Second. I never said he shoudl just "tinker" with his mechanics with no direction from anyone. Last I checked, we've had a pitching coach every year since he's been here...I think its both of their Jobs to get together and figure out something that works...I blame them both and would have been happy to be rid of Rothchild too. As far as his arm falling off if he tinkers...well...it seems to be doing that now, maybe tinkering wouldn't be a bad Idea.

Third. I never questioned Kerry being a "gamer" nor did I say "damn...I just know he wants to be injured" I just said I'm tired of him being injured and am tired of the Cubs waiting on him to get healthy. You could have replied with "I don't think it's Kerry's fault" or... "I really think we should stick behind Kerry, he's gonna be great" or whatever...instead you decided go and make a snide comment about my post.

OK, so now will he not be able to even throw until opening day? If that's the case, he won't be back till June. But if he'll be able to rehab before then, he'll be ready maybe by the end of April (hopefully).

This question had better be raised at the friggin Convention. My blood pressure has to be through the roof right now...I'm a young man...I'm contemplating jumping ship...I've only wasted about 20 years following the Cubs at this point. How in the hell can they justify pitching Kerry late last season after they had determined he was going to have surgery? Let's not let this injury affect just one season....better make it two.

I never thought I'd say it, either, but I'm feeling myself slipping.... I thought I'd be a Cub fan till the day I died, but it gets REALLY had to like this team when you have stupidity beyond words at every level in this organization.

In the end, it really doesn't matter. Kerry's days as a top notch starter are over. The Cubs need to trade him to a team like Texas that needs a top notch closer. His stuff and temperament are better suited to that role.
