Hendry also confirms the Mabry signing.

Sounds like Hendry's ready to go into the season with Cedeno starting at SS...Fine by me!

He didn't quite go that far, but I'm sure he didn't want to insult Neifi.

Can someone sum up some of the points jim made? This is the first time I'm actually here to watch a press C live and I everything was jarbled, no video. It was ok before, but then I reloaded it thinking maybe I missed it or something. When it comes back on it sounded like. . Ba . . ba ba be, bleh bee bo, we like Cedeno. . . be be boo .. blah be . . We actually went after both. . . be be bo.

I kept losing the audio, but I caught that the only reason Furcal was being pursued was to fill the leadoff spot. He said Ronny is plan B.

Hendry paying compliments to Cedeno means absolutely nothing to me. He did the same last year and brought him up for an extended period of time knowing full well that he'd just waste away on the bench. Jim gave Neifi a 2-year contract for a reason and that wasn't to start in Cedeno's spot 30 times a season.

Dusty isn't the only reason that a guy likes Neifi Perez gets playing time over a talented rookie.

He's bailing on t walk big time.

He was asked a loaded question. All he said is he's going to make moves to better the club and if that means not doing anything (ie not trading Walker) he wont.

We all know he's gone...

Neifi signed a contract knowing his playing time is "up in the air." That's good...

Cedeno will play 2B if another SS is acquired

Who fills out the lineup card?

Exactly.

Just an FYI for everyone else out there... XM Radio's MLB channel (XM 175 for those equipped) has been a great resource for all things Winter Meetings. They are constantly interviewing GMs and Managers, and even though most of them say a lot more nothing than anything (Baker talking about hunting with Dibble), it's a pretty good way to get a fix. They also carry these press conferences live...

Do you work for XM???

Maybe he owns stock...

in the interview Hendry did today (where he confirmed the Pierre trade was finalized) Cedeno was said to be getting significant time at 2B if Furcal was acquired (Neifi gets the rest at 2B). It was very obvious that Cedeno would not start over Neifi. The most he could hope for was a platoon situation where he got "signficant time." Of course Hendry threw in a bit about Neifi just loving to play for Dusty and he understood that his playing time wasn't guaranteed.

This just in "Florida knows more about the Cubs system than I do" - Jimmy

(a bit of an exageration, Jim was surprised how well they knew his system)

I hate to overanalyze a simple statement like this, but does anyone else interpret this to mean that perhaps Jim doesn't know other teams' systems as well as he should?
