If Marquis is the centerpiece of a deal for Abreu, why wouldn't the Cards give up two comprable prospects for Abreu themselves?

Cardinals need a second baseman.

Cubs are going to trade Walker.

How about Walker for Marquis? Then package Marquis, Williams, and a prospect for Abreu. Ideas?

I'd do it. But who do we get to play MI then?

I don't want to run the risk of having to be stuck with Marquis, if STL wants to get rid of Marquis, they'll find a suitor. Of course, not signing Burnett increases the value of Marquis until they sign someone else.

I don't think the Cards would do it and we still might have to add to that list for Bobby.

Who plays second and short for the Cubs? Cedeno and Perez?

I'm not sure but it won't be Todd. Hendry doen't even mention his name when he talks about inhouse MI for 2006.

It's a good question and one that's popped up on CardsTalk

How far out is E Pat? 2-3 years?

If he's anything like his brother, he'd... ah, never mind. :)

Lets just keep our fingers crossed on that one

Would be a slap in the face for Todd too. Cards? YUCK

I'd hate it if Walker went to the Cards. He is (was?) one of my favorites on last year's team and I would hate to have to root against him if he was a member of the evil, godless, communist, puppy-kicking Cardinals.

Ok, seriously. We aren't going to give up what the Phills want for Abreu. We just aren't.

There are TWO players we could give up that they would take - Z, Prior. We won't do that. So could the Abreu trade proposals just stop, they are absolutely ridiculous on every level. And downright delusional on some levels.

Marquis is not a #1 or #2, Neither is Jerome Williams. I just don't get what lala land Cubs fans are living in thinking we actually will trade stuff that the Phills would want for Abreu.

Or thinking that we'll get a big impact bat.

Stop telling people not to make trade proposals. You don't know for certain what a team will or will not trade or accept in a trade. You're certainly entitled to say that you don't think a trade will happen, but others are entitled to propose them (as long as it's clear that they are their proposals as opposed to rumors that they heard). Time will tell what does and does not happen.

Why would it be a slap in the face to trade him from a crappy team with little positive direction, to a team with a direction that usually makes the playoffs???
