  1. It also includes Nick Johnson who had a better year at the plate than anyone on the Cobs. The most consistent thread seems to be race. ack, i had no idea how good he was 290/428/520 if you have to look again to see how good he is, you dont understand baseball Umm, didn't you just say that you don't understand baseball then?
  2. Alou never should have been let go. I'm all for bringing him back, but it wont happen.
  3. I wish he could lend some insight as to why there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency on the part of the Cubs. It sure seems like Hendry is being extremely casual about this. Does he not know that Ramirez would likely be the best FA available if he opts out? Wasn't he quoted towards the end of the season as saying that he'd like to get it done a couple weeks after the season ended? What happened to that plan, Jim?
  4. True story, but Howry has had a much better WHIP than Wuertz in each of the past three years. And personally, I don't put a lot of stock into ERA's of relievers, considering that often times they're not even in the game when the run they're being charged with scores.
  5. By actively shop him, I meant try and trade him. Sorry, I thought that was pretty clear.
  6. I've never heard of Lincoln Holdzkom. Anyone care to shine a little light for me?
  7. If you're talking ARod with the Yankees, and you're selling Prior, Eyre and Moore, and they say they'll do it for Howry instead of Eyre, you'd walk? No, I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. I said I wouldn't actively shop Howry. If teams come calling and offer a good deal, then of course I'd take it.
  8. 20 million a year for Andruw Jones? Was Boras drunk out of his mind when he said that? That's one of the silliest things I've heard in awhile. Boras also said today (or maybe yesterday) that ARod isn't going to be traded. Which of course doesn't mean anything.
  9. I don't see any reason to actively shop Howry. I'm all for trading Eyre though.
  10. A preliminary guess tells me the majority of the media is anti-Ramirez. And most of them would be more than fine with Hendry letting him walk. And if he replaces Ramirez with ARod or Tejada, or loses Ramirez and gains Lee and Soriano, I'd bet the majority of fans would be fine with that trade off. I think you are correct in your assessment of the media being anti-Ramirez. And the feelings about Aramis from the members of the media that I have spoken to range from he's unlikable to he's very unlikable to he's just a bad guy (like Sammy). The story goes that Moises really kept Aramis in line (behavior-wise) in 2004 - after Moises departed, Aramis was "left to his own devices." Interpret that as you will - I was given no details. In talking to my sources, I just get the sense that Aramis is not liked in that clubhouse or by management - his lackadaisical attitude has irked a lot of folks on and off the field. There just doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency in keeping him despite his great numbers. So does Hendry sign Moises Alou to a 1 year $6m deal (matching last year's salary) to get 300-400 ABs and babysit Ramirez? The general public absolutely loved Alou. I love Alou too, but that's a pretty stupid idea. Paying 6 million to fix someone's attitude? Come on. I still think that Hendry is going to resign him. If Hendry doesn't want him back, then he didn't want him back at the ASB. Ramirez's lack of hustle and supposed attitude problems didn't just pop up after the trading deadline. Keeping him through the end of the season, only to let him walk, when you could have received a great package three months earlier just doesn't make any sense. I think Hendry wants him back.
  11. I love it when they talk about Dancing With the Stars during an NFL football game.
  12. How does having Glavine bunt "hugely" increase the chance for an out at third?
  13. The Mets had three outs left in their season. If I were a Mets fan, I would've been pissed if they just gave one of those outs away. And I'm not one of the big anti-bunting people like a lot of others that post here.
  14. God I can't wait for tomorrow's game. It'll be my first game of the season, and my first homecoming weekend as an alum. M-I-Z...!!!
  15. My only problem with Aramis is that he doesn't give his all every time. And that's nowhere near a big enough problem to warrant not resigning him. Ramirez is a great player, hustle or no hustle. To not bring him back because he loafs sometimes would be so stupid.
  16. Lugo in 49 games with the Dodgers this year: 219/278/267. That's an awful line, and signing him would be a pretty big risk.
  17. If you make a sign about an announcer to take to a World Series game, you're beyond lame.
  18. That's an interesting question. I wonder if that situation has ever presented itself before.
  19. I think he was pretty solid in the 2nd half actually. I remember seeing something about how he had one of the top 5 ERA's (maybe top 10) post-ASB. Still though, he shouldn't be pitching this well.
  20. What's going on between Rolen and TLR? I forget what game it was, but Rolen was benched in one of the games in St. Louis, and he didn't find out til he looked at the lineup card right before gametime. Apparently the two haven't spoken since then.
  21. He's signed through 2010. But when LaRussa feuds with a player, that player usually isn't back the following year. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. They will get rid of him and Spiezo will play there everyday putting up a .300 .400 .500 line. All because they have the best fans in baseball. That's ridiculous. How is his SLG only going to be 500 when he hits 162 two run triples?
  22. Boy, do you have a lot of movies to watch. Agreed. Like Old School.
