  1. I rarely use this, because it adds next to nothing to the discussion, but...
  2. Cause he feels more comfortable leading off, and is far better when leading off. At least I think I remember reading that.
  3. Mama Lucia's. I'm a big pizza fan, and nothing comes close to this.
  4. If he plays to his career level, yes. If he plays to his 2006 level, he's worth about 45 runs more. Either way Lugo would make us better cheaper. Soriano is a much better hitter than Julio freaking Lugo. It's all about winning, not getting the best value. And Soriano gives us a much better chance of winning than Lugo.
  5. Probably is the key word there. You, nor I know what could have been done and how much money could have/have not been spent. It isn't our money, if the Trib wants to spend it then let them. Actually I am certain it could have been done. The Cubs got an EqA of roughly .208 from their SSs last season in 486 outs. Julio Lugo's career EqA is .265. The difference between those two over 486 outs is roughly 41 runs. The actual should be higher because for the most part Lugo's been a better hitter the last couple of seasons. The Cubs got an EqA of roughly .250 from their CFers last season in 526 outs. Alfonso Soriano's career EqA is .287. The difference between those two over 526 outs is roughly 30 runs. Julio Lugo could be had for what, 32 million max? Soriano was had for what, 100 million more. You can say shove EqA in your ass all you want. You can do this with any stat and find a similar outcome. Are you saying that Soriano is only good for 30 more runs than Juan Pierre? Seriously?
  6. This is outstanding news.
  7. This sucks. I'm not going to blast Hendry though. No one knows what Aramis was demanding. To blast him when you have no idea what he said no to is pretty damn unreasonable. That said, I'm still pissed. I hope we can find a way to convince Aramis to come back. But I'm convinced that he simply doesn't want to play for the Cubs.
  8. Signing Sheffield would be stupid. He's been on the decline for the past four years, and if you take him out of that NY lineup, he'll decline even more. Say no to him, he's washed up.
  9. Wasn't it you or UMfan? I always do poorly but it is a great contest. I hope Tim has the time to put it together again this year. I don't think I would have won, but it's possible. I asked who won in that thread a couple months ago, but no response was ever given before it was un-stickied.
  10. Was last year's winner even announced?
  11. He wasn't much of an option to begin with.
  12. You really think that? No offense, but I think it's silly to say that a backup catcher who starts 30 games a year is more important than the guys who pitch the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings of close games.
  13. I think that Nomar would be a great option for 2B or SS actually. Hopefully we will pursue him even if we do sign Aram back. He would be invaluable playing all over the infield, and maybe even in the oufield. They might consider. That doesn't sound like anything that we didn't already know. Yeah, they might consider it. Doesn't necessarily mean anything. And I highly doubt that that's anything more than the writer mentioning a possibility - a very unlikely one.
  14. I don't see this as big news. I figured all along he'll make at least that much next year.
  15. I would hope not. I haven't seen any posts from him that warrant that.
  16. Not true - on both counts. I'm just going by what on your avatar. And it is true. Any proof? possibly ive lost my ability to read numbers, but it clearly says "joined: 21 aug 2006" right under your avatar picProve it.
  17. Batting in front of Bonds sure didn't help Shea Hillenbrand or Steve Finley put up good OBP numbers this year. Meanwhile, Murton managed a pretty decent .365 OBP hitting primarily in the bottom half of the order in front of the likes of Ronny Cedeno. If protection does exist, it certainly doesn't seem to have a very pronounced effect. I'm sure the topic has been the subject of various anylises if you need more in depth proof. That's the point. Their OBP wasn't as good because no one is going to pitch around them to get to Bonds. Hillenbrand's OBP hitting 3rd was 284. He also hit 5th and 6th this year, and put up respective OBP's of 344 amd 325. The worse the player hitting behind you is, the more likely you are to be pitched around, and more likely to have a higher OBP.
  18. Of course I'm going to vote. I hate people that (can but) don't vote.
  19. Yes, that. I was saying that it's irrelevant to Aramis' meaningful statistics that he had no protection. So you're then saying that Aram's OBP wouldn't change if he had Barry Bonds batting behind him versus Neifi Perez? Sorry, but I don't buy that.
  20. Ditto. Willis is so overrated. Good pitcher, yeah, but he's not worth trading the farm for. Factoring in each player's salary, I don't think I'd trade Murton straight up for Willis. But then again, I am a huge Murton fan, and as I said, think that Willis is very overrated.
  21. That's what Hendry is offering, or that's what Ramirez is asking for? Either way, that's more than fair for both sides.
  22. I thought Glavine wanted to go back to Atlanta.
  23. So you prefer players over 40? He's only 38, but I definitely agree with you. I wouldn't be opposed to taking on Sheffield, but only if the Yankees paid say 12M of his contract. Otherwise, I'd stay far far away.
  24. Wood's buyout isn't going to be counted against next year's payroll though, is it? I thought I heard that it wasn't done that way.
