    So how bad are the Bears gonna beat the Rams? I think we'll (the Rams) will lose 31-3, or something embarrassing like that.

    I don't see the point in signing another starter, but if Hendry is going to, then I would prefer that he sign Marquis.

    I'd definitely look into acquiring Church to be the 4th outfielder, but not as a starter.

    iirc hendry said prior would start the year as the 'sixth starter' Yeah, I agree that he shouldn't be relied on. But we currently have 4 major league starters, with a plethora of young arms and Mark Prior all vying for the 5th spot in the rotation. Say Hendry signs another arm and Prior reports to ST in great shape, what does he do? Zambrano's obviously not going anywhere. He'll have Lilly and another expensive arm. They aren't going to the pen. Miller is probably all set in the rotation. So that leaves Hill. Does Hill get pushed to long relief? To Iowa? Traded? I just don't think it's smart to invest another 10 million dollars into the rotation. i was under the impression that miller would move to the bullpen. he would probably be very effective as a set up guy for wood. I wouldn't count on it. Doesn't he have incentives based on how many starts he makes? Hendry has always been a man of his word, and if he told Miller that he'll start next year, you can pretty much gaurantee that he will.

    You have Miller as a lock for the rotation, and you have him ahead of Hill? Frankly, I hope he's nowhere near the rotation. If he can beat out Prior (or just happens to be the healthier of the two) for the 5th spot, so be it. Just surprised me to see him there. The ordering was based on how likely I see them as actually being in the rotation, not on how I'd structure it. But yeah, if we have Lilly and Hill in our rotation, I'd have Miller (or another righty) between them. I do think Miller will have a solid year next year though.

    Probably? Marshall was awful last year. He's nowhere close to Lilly.

    So we now have... Zambrano Lilly Miller Hill Prior/bunch of crappy young guys The top three are locks for the rotation. Hill will be as well, assuming he's not traded. With Prior filling out the last spot if he's healthy, I really don't see Hendry signing another starter, especially considering the number of other internal options for the rotation.

    Nice. Ward was a pinch hitter in 72 games last year. His average as a PH was .350, with a 438 OBP and 633 SLG%. This is a solid move, if true.

    Yeah, and Santana only makes 12.5 on average for the next 2 years. Carpenter didn't have any leverage to make anymore than that. It's a pointless comparison. Guys without free agent leverage aren't going to get as much as those who do. How is it a pointless comparison? He didn't have to sign that contract. He chose to sign at that price. What's your take on Schmidt's contract?

    Not to bring something up that I'm sure has been beat to death in the last 10 pages, but... seriously? Nearly 16M per year for Jason Schmidt isn't bad to you? That's awful in my eyes, especially when you look at the deal that Chris Carpenter just signed. Chris Carpenter was under team control for the next two years at a pretty low price, so he didn't have much room to ask for more. Still though, Chris Carpenter is going to make 13M for the next 5 years while Jason Schmidt is going to make 16M. Schmidt's contract is in no way a good one, not for the Dodgers that is. It's really a 4/61 deal (not 3/57, don't know where I pulled that number from) Even if you look at it that way, it just helps to prove my point that the Dodgers overpaid bigtime.

    Really? Wow, I hadn't heard that. If that's true, that's outstanding news. I've been saying Wood for closer all offseason. I hope it works out.
