  1. I'll be shocked if the Cubs wind up signing Schmidt for 15M per year.
  2. I'd rather have Derosa than Kennedy. And Kip Wells was brutal last year. 4 million dollars for a guy who put an ERA of 6.50? Unbelievable.
  3. Dempster for Westbrook would be a great deal for the Cubs. But with that said, I don't understand the Jake Westbrook love-fest that's been going on here recently. What am I missing about him that makes him so desirable?
  4. There's no way in hell I'd vote for McGwire. I wouldn't vote for anyone who took roids though.
  5. The higher they climb, the harder they fall. Plus it helps Mizzou for kU to win against a good non-con opponent(conference strength, strength of schedule, etc.). I want kU to be as highly ranked as possible for both our games against them. So you'll be rooting for kU in every game up til the time they play us? Wow. I'll root against kU every day of the year, regardless of who they play. You'll probably hate them as much as I do after you spend another couple years in Columbia.
  6. Did I seriously just read that you guys (TT, Cubbies75) were rooting for kU? Umm, what?!
  7. I've always liked Renteria as a player. I'd be thrilled if he were our SS next year. I don't know much about the Braves though... are there any talks of him being dealt? Do they have a SS waiting in the wings?
  8. I agree. If they're willing to part with one of them for someone like Chad Tracy, they should be willing to part with them for Jones. I don't agree with your logic here AT ALL. Tracy has a ton more value than Jones. A ton. A ton? How do you figure that? They'll both make roughly the same amount of money next year, and Jones was significantly better than Tracy was last year.
  9. While looking at Lee's baseball reference page, I just noticed something that was completely shocking to me. He stole 19 bases last year! And he's had more than 10 stolen bases every year but one since 2000. I guess I always just assumed that he was slow because of his size.
  10. Interesting...you think some people here are a certain way, but can't think of any one person like that. Oh I can think of several people like that. I just didn't want my comments to seem that they were directed to one person specifically, because they weren't.
  11. Thanks for the breaking news. good job missing the point. what game are you watching anyway? If you don't enjoy the statistical evaluation why do you assume no one else does? If you don't want to read it, don't. I don't read anything baseball### posts because his opinion doesn't interest me. I suggest you and he do the same with posts you aren't interested in instead of retorting with sarcasm. Just because you don't want to follow logical and mathematical arguments doesn't mean you need to denigrate the posters or act as if you are sooo put out by having to read them. It seems that you're the one who missed the point. My point, at least. I'm not saying that I'm anti-stats, or whatever. Stats are a great way to tell a lot about a player. What bothers me is when people use stats, and only stats, to evaluate a player. Statistics are great, but I have no interest in looking at a stat that takes 10 pages of paper to compute. Does that make me ignorant to these "new age" stats? You bet it does, and I'm completely fine with that, as I don't need all those to evaluate a player. And I never acted as if I was put out by reading anyone's posts, so you can cancel that little theory. I learn a lot on this site. It's just that some people seem like they'd rather study a stat book than watch an actual baseball game. And I don't have a particular person in mind when I say that, so if you're reading this and happen to think that I'm talking about you... I'm not.
  12. seriously, how can people be so close minded to everything and anything new? It's not about being close minded. I can appreciate new age thinking on baseball, and on anything else. It's about people getting so wrapped up in different statistics that they focus more on a formula than they do on the actual game. It's just annoying, that's all.
  13. I don't see how this contract is surprising, or bad. He was 12-5 last year, while putting up a 3.65 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He probably could have got more than 6 million. I wouldn't want him on the Cubs next year just because of his age, but his deal is pretty good.
  14. After reading through this thread, I can't help but wonder if baseball is even fun to some people.
  15. What do you mean? How does signing a new leadoff hitter mean that they have to sign Bonds?
  16. Man, talk about overpaid. The Soriano deal is looking better and better.
  17. Aramis' comments yesterday really should have bought him some goodwill from the fanbase. He really showed a commitment to this team. If he wants goodwill, then he should show his committment by offering to pay for some of Zambrano's contract. Otherwise he's just a lazy fat jerk. Not only should he pay some of it, he should sprint at full speed from his car to the bank door, shift his feet hyperactively as the teller prepares the certified check, and then speed all the way back to Wrigley, hustle up the stairs and dive in JH's office as he sets the check on the desk. That's hilarious.
  18. I don't follow college football, but if I wanted to see a Michigan - Ohio State rematch in the title game, who should I want to win this weekend between USC and Notre Dame?
  19. I'd rather have Bynum than Counsell. Freddy isn't a bad guy to have on your team. If he can avoid the mental mistakes, he'll be a nice guy to have on the bench.
  20. Wow, I had no idea Justin Morneau was so good this year.
  21. This voting was for the MVP, not the best player. [/can of worms]
  22. I haven't seen anything to indicate a huge contract. He made 10.5M last year, and is one of the top two pitchers available in a weak class. He's going to get a huge contract. I'd like to have Jason Schmidt on the Cubs next year too. But not at the cost.
  23. No thanks on signing a soon to be 34 year old who's past his prime to a huge contract.
  24. Well this thread took an intersting turn. And by interesting, I mean lame.
