  1. That's a good point. I've bandied about the idea of a best movie poll by Genre, but never been motivated to really flesh it out. Best Comedy would be an awesome one to have.
  2. Definitely. Has Hendry said anything about trying to lock him up this offseason? If so, I must've missed it.
  3. No, bad taste is signing your failed GM to an extension and then leaving town. Why did it never dawn on me that that is exactly what MacPhail did? Good call.
  4. He hit 300 this year with a 360 OBP... he can still play. Other than the injury risk (which you'd have to acknowledge by having a competent CF-er on the bench if you were to sign him), why wouldn't you want Lofton?
  5. Huh? There was some stuff in the papers about Lofton and Sosa not getting along and that there might have been some clubhouse chemistry issues down the stretch in 2003. I don't know who was at fault or what really happened, but Hendry might not be interested in Lofton because of that. Hmm, never heard a peep about Kenny being at odds with anyone. I heard of the Sosa incident as well. And as much as I like Sammy, I think it's probably safe to say that Sammy was at fault for that altercation. I've always heard that Lofton was a great teammate before that. I wanted the Cubs to sign Lofton for '06. I'm not opposed to them signing him for '07, but I'd much rather see the Cubs sign Soriano for CF.
  6. Really? I don't think it'd be enough for the Mariners to do it.
  7. Ichiro is a much better defender than Jones and will keep base runners honest. I'd love to him have him atop the lineup for our big hitters to drive him in. Not to mention that he's probably the best basestealer in the game. (45/47 this past season)
  8. Tejada is a very good player, but I fear that he'll be viewed as a great player in terms of what will be required to get him.
  9. I think you're giving a little too much credit to Hendry for "putting together" the trade for Nomar. It is my belief that Nomar would have been traded to some team, Hendry just worked out the best possible deal for Nomar. I mean, all they got for him was Doug Menkavich Well, it's commonly known that Hendry was the one who put the whole thing together, and got all the teams involved. I don't see how I'm giving him too much credit by saying that he's had experience in successfully orchestrating a four team trade for a marquee player.
  10. The fact that Hendry did such a good job putting the whole Nomar trade together gives me a lot of hope that he can work out a deal with more than two teams to bring ARod here. He may give out bad contracts to bad players, but he is good at making trades. And yes, I know he's made some bad ones too. No GM hasn't.
  11. Well I didn't win the chance to buy Cards WS tickets this morning. So go Mets!
  12. What the freaking hell? How can that possibly be justified? What, did he not call in sick for the whole year? With all the injuries this team has had, that's ridiculous that they give the trainer a new contract.
  13. There's no way that's true. Off the top of my head I'd take Johan Santana, Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols, and David Wright straight up for Zambrano. And probably a handful of others too. But not ARod.
  14. Well, he claims he never said that. Hendry could have told Lou to say that he never said it, as it obviously doesn't help Jim's negotiating ability for his manager to publicly state that he wants the Cubs to trade for a player.
  15. Mercker's main complaint was about a dumbass Chip Caray comment, if I remember right. I don't remember what started the whole thing (something about Oswalt sounds right though), but I know there was a confrontation on the team plane between Mercker and Stone.
  16. I was just responding to the idea that players should come first over announcers, which I totally agree with. While on the topic though, a player's thoughts of an announcer are worthless to me. And Mercker is getting "the blame" cause he was the one who was bitching about Stone, was he not? And for the record, I know that Stone technically wasn't fired. It's pretty obvious, to me at least, that he was forced out though.
  17. I don't think an announcer should be given the boot because a player doesn't like him. Should a sportswriter be fired because a player doesn't like a piece he writes? (Not that I'm saying Stone was fired because Mercker said so)
  18. I thought you could only sign 2 type A free agents. I could be wrong on that though, of course.
  19. I'm also hoping that he's back in the Cubs booth next year.
  20. He should be signed to play CF. To leadoff? Well, of course that's stupid. But what's the problem with him in CF? Or put him in LF or RF and sign Lofton to play CF and leadoff, with Murton filling the other corner outfield spot.
  21. I love ARam, but if the Yankees wanted to trade ARod for him straight up... buh bye Aramis.
