  1. You're right things will change and it is unfair for some teams to skate through an easy schedule and beat the LA-Laf's and division 2 teams while others play tougher teams out of conference or as an idependent. The SEC teams do this way too often IMO especially LSU, Auburn and Alabama. Let me also add that the SEC has not beaten any quaility opponents other than Georgia's win ove Boise St. Any conference can have teams go 3-0 and 4-0 playing teams like that.
  2. That OPS is largely SLG-driven though, only a .336 OBP. However, it's not out of the question to see him with a BABIP around .290, which gives him a .290/.350/.500ish line. Solid, but I'd like to aim higher than Mench to start out with. Unless of course you acquire Mench, then use him or Murton as a chip in getting a better OF. Do you see Mench as a better player than Murton? Could the Cubs sign and trade Mench in a bigger deal?
  3. For this guy...really? I don't see trading a decent 3-5 guy like Williams for a possible 4th OF guy.
  4. Worlds better? Dusty world better or real world better? Can Mench play 1st base?
  5. Well, we have heard reports that the Cubs are going hard after Giles. I think many are just choosing to disregard it because it was Gammons. When did Gammons link Giles to the Cubs? viewtopic.php?t=26193&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 Scroll down to Bruno's post. Heck, you even replied.. EDIT - lmao. i just remembered Gammons saying we were looking for an "impact corner outfielder" in the ESPN Radio 11/4/05 thread. it's kind of funny that ESPN insider doesn't even have the Cubs listed as a possible suitor for Giles (they have: Cardinals, Red Sox, Mariners, Yankees, Indians). I guess Gammons isn't an "insider." Gammons seems to be the only soul who thinks Giles in Chicago is more than a pipe dream. I hope he's right. I have to wonder where Gammons got the idea that the Cubs would be interested in Giles and what you suggested about Gammons just looking at the Cubs needs and putting Giles in their seems to be the way it might be. Also, the ESPN insider is often wrong, a lot more times then they are right.
  6. Mench's numbers make him look like a right handed Burnitz. Why would the Cubs need to give up a prospect along with Walker to get a worse player? That's my thinking as well. Mench over Burnitz because: He's younger, he's cheaper and he has more upside. I like the trade if the cubs get a prospect. Does Mench have a minor league history to say he might be as good as a Burnitz? Also, no one has mentioned how good/bad Mench is defensively and I would consider Burnitz to be a little above average thoughout his career and average last year.
  7. I understand a lot can happen from herre to the end of the season but what 8 teams would you send to the playoffs? Mine: USC vs West Virginia Texas vs LSU Alabama vs VTech Miami vs Penn State UCLA, Oregon, Georgia as the next in line to replace any team one loss team that loses another game and as long as they stay with one loss. ND, Ohio State, Florida, Florida St, Auburn, Louisville slide in if a 2 loss slot opens. I think a 16 team playoff diminishes the regular season as 2 loss teams in a college football playoff IMO should not be in the mix unless they are not enough 1 loss teams. The playoffs in the ACC, Big 12 and SEC could make this more complicated.
  8. CuseCub: Does Lousville have a reason to be respected? They ripped apart NC and Oregon St and I fail to see why ND is 17 spots better. They lost to S Florida at Florida a team that gave Penn St all they could handle in Penn State and blew a big lead against WV to lose. I'll take Louisville over ND at a neutral site.
  9. Me too. I've never been able to get it to work. Oh....and you all are welcome. Maybe it's a good thing to be computer illiterate and do things that the knowledgable ones wouldn't do!
  10. I'm hoping that USC, Texas and Alabama all lose one game by the end of the season and this whole BCS thing goes splat.
  11. No. Now the big question is....is he insurable? :D Drew would fit in perfectly for the injury ridden Cubs.
  12. I think it's fine here. It does make for some interesting decisions for the Dodgers. Does Drew have a no trade contract?
  13. You may be right dav but I still look at the wins over the past X amount of years and give him the benefit of doubt. Did Jocketty hire LaRussa?
  14. This kind of thinking is quite dangerous my friend. I hope the ND players are not thinking the same thing for your sake.
  15. Imagine if the Cards get Dunn and Giles? Sorry, I just have more faith in Joketty than I do Hendry when it comes to going after the right players and getting it done.
  16. Sammy really tied Hendry's hands last year IMO. I don't think he'll wait so long to fill the spot and I agree it would be wonderful to have a bat like Mench as the 4th OF.
  17. As I have stated in other threads, I would take Wilson in CF just as long as a guy like Giles, Matsui, Sheffield, Abreu, Burrell or Dunn is playing corner OF. I don't want Wilson in CF if a guy like Encarnacion, Mench or Burnitz is playing corner OF. I agree with that and I'll add that as long as the Cubs have a leadoff hitter on the roster too I wouldn't mind Wilson. If the Cubs have this: Perez SS Murton LF Lee 1B ARam 3B Impact RF bat Wilson CF Barrett C Cedeno 2B This I would not like.
  18. I'd trade for him under those circumstances Vance but he just seems to be a Murton type player with a little more power and a little less OBP. One thing I would do is find out what pitchers are coveted by the teams that have impact bats first and go from there. If Mitre or Leicester have drawn interest from the Phils I would give them the first shot.
  19. I think that West Virginia and Louisville have received little respect and I'm looking forward to seeing them prove how good they are in the bowls.
  20. Compare him to Austin Kearns. What would we have to pay to get Kearns? I'd say Walker + Mitre would be fair. Also, it cures JH the temptation of using Walker to get Soriano. How old is Kearns? I don't see Mench as a 30 HR guy and as I said if he can't play defense I have no interest in him with his marginal numbers in that small park that he plays in. If I have to think about possible bad decisions that Hendry and/or Baker are going to make I have to say the problem isn't the team but the people in charge of the team.
  21. I wouldn't mind this guy as a 4th OF but not as a starter and not for an even up trade for Walker.
  22. Mench's numbers make him look like a right handed Burnitz. Why would the Cubs need to give up a prospect along with Walker to get a worse player? That's my thinking as well.
  23. With those kinds of numbers how is his defense? If he is average or below I have no interest in him as a starter in any way.
  24. I'd rather have Giles go to the Yanks than the Cards.
  25. My cyber money says that Murton is tired. I wish these games were on TV.
