  1. I wonder if other teams are given a choice between Perez and Walker who they would pick? Just say Walker could bring in Mench....does anyone think that Perez could? I don't.
  2. I'd kill for Castillo if it blocked Neifi from regular playing time. The scary thing is this may be the proverbial robbing Peter to pay Paul. If Castillo comes to the Cubs I think that means they couldn't sign Furcal and guess who slides over to the SS spot? Maybe Walker goes to Flordia, thus eating a little bit of Castillo's salary. The Hendry will have his 2 speedsters in the 1-2 spots. The part I don't understand is this. Hendry knows Perez wants to be a starter and it's in Hendry's character to be straight up about things like this. This is why I think Perez will be starting at 2B or SS for the Cubs or another team if he is eligable to be traded.
  3. Trading Cedeno is the only way this move can be half-justified. Otherwise you're either overloading an already short bench(hooray 12 pitchers!) with strictly middle infielders, or you're setting up a Neifi/Cedeno for one spot. If the latter is the case, they'll start in a platoon to break Cedeno in, and Ronny will outproduce Neifi. Dusty will say that this is part of the plan, and wait until Neifi completely breaks down to play Cedeno everyday. At the slightest sign of struggle, Dusty will put Neifi back in, and Cedeno will be lucky to see the platoon role. We saw it with Choi/Karros, we saw it with Hollandsworth/Dubois, and we saw it last year with Cedeno/Neifi. Why would this be any different? Ahh yes....the old deja vous all over again thing. I think I've lived this nighmare before.
  4. SCFan asked earlier if Perez can even be dealt unitl June 15th....does anyone know if he can be?

  6. Is it possible that the Cubs are going to trade Cedeno and others to Florida for either Pierre or Castillo?
  7. Is Augie available? can he play RF? As well as Macias.
  8. More stupid than penciling Perez in everyday? So you're saying Walker is a defensive replacement? :D
  9. Murton whom JH did trade for. Oh never mind! Sorry, boys! I didn't mean to ruin the pessimist party. Honestly no GM is perfect and no GM...well except for Himes...is usless. They all have their faults and pluses but the mixing of Baker and Hendry just is not conducive to winning a World Series IMO. Hendry has made some wonderful trades and he's had some dreadful free agent signings.
  10. Is it really over reacting to a pattern that repeats itself? I agree with you that it's only November but Hendry is continuing to do things the same way he always has and is expecting different results. What moves can he make yet? He can't sign any free agents other than his own. Rusch was retained because of the gazillion pitching injuries they have endured over the past two seasons. Rusch has been yoyo'ed (even a word?) between the rotation and relief. I think he's done a decent job despite that. I assumed he would be back from the start. Hendry obviously feels he is valuable asset to have, considering someone probbaly will go down this year on the staff. Perez, same way. He is a good backup. I agree that Baker favors veterans, but early in the year what choice did he have but to play Neifi? I'm with you, I don't really want Perez to be starting next year any more than you do. But I'm not going to burn Hendry in flames before he has a chance to put together a whole team. Thats what I'm trying to get across. I want to see the whole picture, not just the minor pieces. That's very logical thinking Bruno but Hendry is giving alcohol to an alcoholic. I agree that waiting to see what team he has in place in March is what we should wait for. I just do not think that Mr. Hendry has figured out how to assemble a winning team and signing Perez is an example of this. Yes...no doubt Perez would be fine as a defensive replacement but Hendry knows who is in charge of the lineups and since Hendry seems oblivious to this fact or agrees with it makes me think that he is not the right man for this job. I'll wait while gritting my teeth but I do not have any hope that Hendry will make this team any better.
  11. Is Augie available?
  12. You think the Cubs can make those two deals and not have Walker be part of them? Especially now that we have more middle IF than pitchers. I suppose Walker is going somewhere. My question: is Mench a guy that can catch the ball? Hendry likes players that can.
  13. Is it really over reacting to a pattern that repeats itself? I agree with you that it's only November but Hendry is continuing to do things the same way he always has and is expecting different results. Examples? Estes, Alf, Holla, Macias, Perez, Blanco, and Burnitz are all examples of overpaying for mediocre talent. Rusch may also be added to the list.

  15. Pretty good deal for a guy that can catch the ball. I'm excited about this signing and I can't wait to see what Hendry will do next!
  16. Why did I become a Cub fan is what I want to know.
  17. I see Macias more than Holla. I think Holla is gone for good until the Cubs are 20 games out in July and Hendry thinks they need one more bat and trades Pie and Hill for Holla to put the Cubs back in the race.
  18. It looks as if Hendry took advantage of those buy one get one free drink specials.
  19. :D Let's hope I don't become a certain ump and blow the call!
  20. I don't hate everything just things that Hendry does! :D IMO, in the beginning of the season when it means something Baker will go to his trusted vets. I see this: Furcal SS Perez 2B Lee 1B ARam 3B Wilson CF Mench RF Barrett C Murton LF And this is the best case scenerio.
  21. well the white sox did it, so by that logic we will go get wagner, ryan , and burnett. but wait, we won't do that we will just half ass it and hope this year those young rookies/prospects Rusch and Perez come into their own  But you have to pitch the rookies once every 12 days and EXPECT them to be sharp while blowing out a guy elbow that just got back from rehab from over pitching him.
  22. Good question. I'm not sure if he filed and if a player doesn't file are they considered free agents?
  23. Wow...you just can't make stuff like this up. Does this guy have any thoughts of his own or does he just watch who wins the World Series and try to imitate what the winning team did? What kind of leader of a team is? Dal was right...it is Hendry.
  24. Perez has been there you know. Where? I have no idea. This does put Walker in a precarious situation and I agree that no way Cedeno gets a shot over a veteran that just signed a 2 year deal. Perez said he wanted to start are they (Hendry+company) trying to tell us that Cedeno is in the picture? It's Holla/Dubois once again only I can't wait to hear the lame excuse they come up with when Perez is starting..
