  1. No, I completely agree with your assesment of Kearns. He's no guarantee to produce. Given how our window of opportunity is not as wide open as it was 2 years ago, I'd rather not take on a reclamation project. I'd rather have close to guaranteed production. As would I. How old is Kearns?
  2. He better lock Pierre up long term without Pie waiting in the wings. BTW can Dunn play RF? I thought he was not defensively gifted? Maybe Murton would be in the package to Cincy for Dunn? I like Dunn, but the money and defense likely means Kearns is the more viable target, IMO. I thought the same thing about Murton being one of the guys moved. I also agree with all that said Kearns may be the target Hendry settles for. What if Hendry gets both?

I've heard Dunn is defenisvely challenged and I agree that Hendry would lock up Pierre long term first. Maybe Murton would be one of the players used in the trade for Dunn?
  4. The Yankees are interested in TO for CF too.
  5. Get-R-Dunn Mr. Hendry! Would you trade Z for Dunn Hoops? Now that I think about it....what if Hendry gets Pierre and then trades Pie and some top pitching prospects to the Reds for Dunn?
  6. Me too. I just wonder how much the Cubs will be interested in Pierre if they sign Furcal right away. Pierre reminds me of Mickey Rivers .
  7. Good news. Now let the kid go home and get some rest.
  8. I'm still giving Hendry the benefit of doubt. Perez made me go ballistic but I'm going to wait and see how Hendry does. Maybe he will surprise us. :D
  9. Looks like BbB was right about SD lowballing the hometown guys. Hmm.... Pierre Furcal Lee ARam Giles Barrett Murton Perez/Cedeno How's that sound Hoops?
  10. ESPN tried their best to get it for him too.
  11. Stone also said one more thing, which was obvious, but encouraging: Jim Hendry wants to have a good offseason. He is motivated and positioned well for 4 reasons: (1) has more than $30M to spend (2) has decent young talent in the minors, which he can trade (3) he was 4 games below .500 (4) he finished behind the Brewers They better get used to finishing behind the Brewers. With the potential addition of Furcal and Pierre, no way do the Cubs finish behind the Brewers. I had a feeling you would chime in on that one! :D

  13. What time on Friday can the Cubs extend an "official" offer?
  14. The Fish must think the Cubs are the same morans they were when they dealt Willis.
  15. How about Terry Mulholland? He's a pro... And he can pick guys off!
  16. I just see the Marlins making out like a bandit after that trade.
  17. Six of one, half dozen of another. Murton's arm isn't great either. Not sure who's arm is better between the two. Neither's a great fit in RF, IMO. Home runs seem about right. I think the avg and obp are a bit low. Is he better than Drew? Drew scares me with all these injuries. I understand some you can not help but he just seems to be hurt all the time and Matsui seems to be out there everyday.
  18. Good point. I just worry if they do this what will they do with all this young pitching when it comes time for the Rule 5 draft. I'd hate to see them lose a decent young arm like they did Sisco.
  19. :D That's how I see it too! The only part your missing is when Kinzer has to be reminded who Perez is.
  20. This is not a problem when Ramirez is healthy but his lack of health bothers me. I really don't want to see an infield of Cedeno, Furcal and Perez or even worse Macias if Ramirez is hurt or needs rest. To rid the Cubs of Macias the Cubs need to get a power hitter that can play 3rd and 1st IMO. It would also make that player the best option to pinch hit as BbB has pointed out the horrific numbers Macias has put out pinch hitting while being the Cubs #1 option. Hairston just doesn't fit that bill for me.
  21. If such a policy is ever applied in soccer, the world cup can safely be limited to an eight team tournament. And no, the US would not be taking part. They take part now? :D
  22. What are Matsui's numbers and how do they compare to Giles and Abreu? Is his arm really that bad 1908 and would Murton be the better RF? I just see Matsui as a 25/280/350 type guy, are those numbers wrong?
  23. How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age. Pierre turned 28 in August, and is a free agent after this season. This should make him pretty cheap for the Cubs player wise...right? Cuse, they've been speculating all morning on the Score (take with a grain of salt) that they're talking up a straight swap of Patterson for Pierre. Thanks Mark. I don't know how that makes me feel. On one hand I think Patterson could come back and be a very good CF but on the other I think he would be better off with another team for a fresh start. But, with this fresh start what if he hits 20 HR's and hits 280/310? Who is better defensively between the two? If the Cubs do not sign Furcal at least they would have a leadoff hitter in Pierre. But, if the Cubs sign Furcal and an impact bat in right could they just slide CPatt in the 7th slot and get decent production from that slot? What if CPatt has indeed lost it and will never be the player he was or could have been. What if the fish find the flaw and he is a 30/300 guy? This is a tough one for me and this is why potential is such a GM killer..
