  1. 4/40 mil is probably what it would take. I bet he gets more $ then Pavano. I'll go 4/44. Me too. 4/55 is my geuss.
  2. True, some expensive pitcher has to take Woods place on the DL. I'll sit back and see what Hendry does to find out what team he has in place in the spring.
  3. I was looking for some rope and that's why I didn't respond yet. :D I would be fine with that team as long as Hendry upgrades the pitching. I'd love for a player/s in the minors to step up and pitch well to help with costs.
  4. Well let's let the Bleacher Bums make him laugh once in awhile then!
  5. Interesting I could see this...Do the Mets have any up-and-coming prospects worth mentioning? I'd be happy if the Cubs paid the money and gave the Mets a couple of Rule 5 guys that won't make the list.
  6. I don't think being a rookie is the key. Age and years of experience are the keys to Dustys heart. Bellhorn had time in MLB and hit 27 HR's the year before and Baker still felt the need to put Harris at 3rd.
  7. I agree 100%. Would you be ok with Furcal, Abreu and Preston Wilson? I don't like Wilson, but Abreu might make up for that some. I'd rather see Bradley, Wilkerson, Clark, Michaels, GMJ, or Church in CF. I just don't see the Nationals moving Wilkerson because they don't have enough offense. Is Bradley good enough on defense to play CF? I just se Hendry liking Wislon like he coveted Burnitz so that's why I added him. Also, do you think the Cubs have enough talent to trade for Abreu AND Bradley? Do either of those teams need a second baseman like Walker? I'm curious if anyone has interest in Patterson....I really feel some GM would really like him in their lineup.
  8. I agree 100%. Would you be ok with Furcal, Abreu and Preston Wilson?
  9. This is my thinking too. If Hendry gets some AAAA flunkees and Baker puts them in left and 2nd once the rookies struggle this team will be right back to 2004-05. See Dunston/Enrique Wilson/Lenny Harris/Holla/Goodwin in the Baker file.
  10. Yep. Let's have Hendry evaluate these guys correctly and make these types of deals.
  11. Unfortunately, there are 3 other teams in the division. Zambrano IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA W/L vs. Cincy 10.7 10 9 9 6 14 3 220 5.06 11.81 2.53 1.50 7.59 0-0 vs. Milw 24.0 18 11 11 10 24 1 373 3.75 9.00 0.38 1.17 4.13 2-2 vs. Pitts 21.7 16 11 10 10 18 3 320 4.15 7.48 1.25 1.20 4.15 2-0 When did they get in the Central? Oh yeah, 18 teams in the Cubs division and 4 in both of the AL/NL West divisions I forgot.
  12. Abreu did win a Gold Glove though. :D If Hendry is going pitching and defense I don't see how he makes this deal unless he has 2 more pitchers ready to take Z's place. Unless, Hendry knows something that we don't about Z like an injury or he won't stay with the Cubs once he becomes a free agent.
  13. I recall similar logic being used by the Cubs when they traded Bill Madlock after a "career year" to the Giants for an over-the hill Bobby Murcer. The problem was Madlock was just hitting his stride and had several more "career years" with the Giants. It was the Pirates and I cried like a baby when he was traded, but then again I was only 5. He was my favorite Cub. As did I and I was a lot older than 5.
  14. And whatever meaning other Cub players. That is being realistic.
  15. Peter Gammons is acting GM until Towers takes over.
  16. If there's any validity to it, it's not a bad move. I'm not sold on Pierre at all, but we're really not giving up much. I like Sergio as much as anyone around here, but he's out of options so he needs to be traded. He won't clear waivers, and when looking at the current personell in the bullpen and rotation, I don't see where he fits into the Cubs 2006 plans. Patterson also is likely to be moved after his dismal season. Pierre will fill the gap in CF, although costly, and gives us the prototypical lead-off hitter Dusty desires. It's not a great move, but it likely doesn't make us a worse team either. I disagree. You're making the lineup weaker because Baker is going to put Pierre at the leadoff slot and IMO the goal is to make the team better not to just trade players. I'd rather move CPatt, Mitre and whatever for an impact leadoff guy or power bat.
  17. I am not a Pierre fan and this trade just gives Baker a guy to plug into the leadoff slot that isn't really that good. If this trade happens I look for another Lee 40 HR low RBI type of year.
  18. It also may move some of those good young players that Arizona had. I wonder if this trade is going to be a good thing for the Cubs? Seems like Damon's price tag may come down. Perhaps Pie can be moved to rf in 2007. Do you think that the Cubs could win with 3 OF's that don't hit over 20 HR's each? I would really be uncomfortable with that.
  19. It also may move some of those good young players that Arizona had. I wonder if this trade is going to be a good thing for the Cubs?
  20. If Hendry keeps following the previous World Series winners "format" then he has no plan on how to run a team and that really would worry me. I agree, maybe Hendry has come to conclusion that adding pitching and defense, along with a OBP machine like Giles has good chance of producing a playoff team. True, he may have seen the light and it's nice that he can admit other ways can be better but I don't understand the constant changing of theories. It just seems to me that these constant changes are not his true beliefs and his patience with them will be very low.
  21. How could he be taking the rap? Did he pee in the cup of another player? Wouldn't that have been snuffed out as soon as he stepped into the room with players and MLB officials? To me the MLB version of steroid testing makes Pro Wrestling seem real.
  22. The Mets are REALLY getting to be annoying.
  23. If the Cubs get Irchiro then they need to sign Nomar or find a CF/SS with a lot of pop. I'd go after ARod big time if I aquired Ichiro.
  24. I would trade any player on this team if it made the Cubs better. If the Cubs worked out a deal with the Rockies to get Helton and another very good player I'd do that trade.
