  1. I think it's all across the board on the blame for this mess of a team. Lots of people to blame, but the buck stops w/ the trib. they make the big decisions. No they don't. That's the whole point. They don't want to be making the baseball decisions because they're not baseball people. As has been previously stated, this really isn't anything new. I'd imagine Hendry has been waiting a while to re-sign Baker. Well they've proved they're not baseball people by resigning these two guys to extensions.
  2. He'll be in in left soon enough don't worry.
  3. Beat by an expansion team with your ex players, this is wonderful in just so many ways.
  4. I think it's all across the board on the blame for this mess of a team.
  5. Dusty wants that to be at one so there is still room for improvement.
  6. perfect summary. the trib sucks. :x Why change? Watch out for next year when the Cubs sell out all their games in an hour, that'll show them.
  7. I'm thinking that left handed guy they got to pitch batting practice is going to be on the 40 man roster soon, can he catch too?
  8. Did he get a hit?
  9. They're waiting for the next 2 game winning streak which may happen around....2010.
  10. If they keep picking up players like this somebody ought to be fired not traded.
  11. The players are doing what they've always done so I blame Hendry and Baker for this huge mess. The lack of vision and knowledge just amaze me.
  12. I doubt that would be enough. There's too much rumbling on all levels of Cubdom of this being his last year here. He needs to put up a career year or damn near it to either stay here OR make the money he wants/expects with another team. He needs to play for his supper. I think Wood would get a very heavy incentive ridden contract and NY, Texas and Boston could pony up a lot of cash IMO. I think 3 games would show just enough to wet the big spenders appetite and Woods agent will get them to bid against each other. He's a big name and the fans of the other teams would like this signing, especially Texas.
  13. I'll give Wood the benefit of doubt on this for now. I'm just worried he is going to phone in the season and try to stay healthy for his free agent push when he throws 3 good games at the end of the year.
  14. Yes it is. How about just Cabrera and Tejada? The Cubs need all 3. I see no reason to get Tejada unless the Cubs make a change at manager/GM. Any move is moot until then.
  15. If the Cubs trade the farm for Willis I expect them to remain under 500 for at least 3 more years. IMO Willis has peaked and is going down from here.
  16. And the sell outs will continue. Maybe next year all the tickets will be gone in an hour.
  17. Yeah that was a really good idea to put Wood in the pen when he was hurt last year. Yeah the injury bug is once again upon the Cubs but they also do a lot of these things to themselves such as the Wood manuver. It's time for a sweeping change.
  18. Let me get this right. Hendry is upset about Jones being misquoted? What did he say? "I don't think I should swing at every pitch". That probably mad Hendry and Baker very angry.
  19. Brasky.... it's not a question of if; only when, how often, and how outrageously !! He has a lot of free time to think of a way to do it.
  20. Just once, I want to see a Cubs starting player that's not indispensable go on the DL rather than a star. Pierre, Mabry, even Cedeno would fall under that category. or Angel Pagan ?? I think some might have wanted him to start in RF instead of Mr. Jones.
  21. Prior and Marshall for Snow? Granted he can't play second but if the Cubs can collect all the under 200 hitters in MLB that should count for something.
  22. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060518&content_id=1460008&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Responding to the bolded part "He can play the outfield" "He can pinch-hit" "He can pinch-run" He can do all those things, but yet he can't get picked up by any of the other 29 MAJOR LEAGUE teams. If he was a free agent that they landed in the offseason, at least they could argue that other teams might have had interest in the guy and they were lucky to get him. They plucked him off the scrap heap. No one else wanted him. So, it makes all the sense in the world that the Cubs would sign him and bring him up real soon. The only thing left to hear is that he was signed to a 2 year deal at 2.5m a year and it will be a thing of beauty. This is just funny now. It is funny and Hendry has just beaten the fans hopes completely down. I hope they continue to sell out so the fans can show them they really hate those moves by spending their money at Wrigley.
  23. I think the Cubs should trade Lee, Barrett and Murton to complete the dynasty. Then, sign really good free agents like Jones so they can lose their first round pick.
  24. Pierre was at his pathetic worst We can piss and moan all we want about Hendry picking him up, and it clearly wasn't a good move, but no one could've predicted he'd be this bad during a contract year. IMO he had the potential to be this bad as well as hitting 290.
  25. Who did you want? Keeping Nomar was never a pie in the sky goofy concept. He was willing to come back cheeply and switch positions. It's not in the same category of thinking about keeping Burnitz or Patterson. I was one of the very few who supported the Tejada/Prior deal that was rumored. But since it didn't happen, I was very supportive of Cedeno and Walker at SS and 2nd. Also, I believe you and I were in agreement in trying to get Giles to play RF. Of course, signing Giles would've prevented Hendry from overspending on Perez, Jones and Rusch. I agree on all counts. You put Giles and Tejada on this team and you have a nice lineup. Walker could have lead off if they could get the speed thing out of their little minds. I don't know why people continue to bring up Giles since all the evidence has shown that he was never leaving San Diego. As for the 2nd bolded sentence, if you put Giles and Tejada on any team and you would have a nice lineup. The Cubs had the funds and the players to land both. Yeah, maybe Giles was always staying in SD but Hendry could have kicked open a door to get his attention. Nope...it's easier to overpay a non productive player.
