I think it's because he's seeing the ball well. We'll see how he does OBP wise when he slumps.

Baker believes that only CF, 2B and SS's can hit 1st or second. I do think Ronny could be a decen 2 though. i don't think his hitting style fits the 2 hole with Pierre leading off. he spoils a lot of pitches and doesn't take many. it's pretty hard to nab a bag when that happens. we could have had men at 3rd and 2nd. with a Cedeno double, that's 2 runs, not 1. just a little more patience early in the count. I have to admit I haven't seen a lot of Cub games lately but Ronny was fine in his pitch selection last year near the end before he got hurt. It's not really a matter of pitch selection. It's willing to put yourself behind in the count (potentially) b/c you're taking a few pitches. Ronny is not a great 2 strike hitter. He really expands the zone. Maybe he's learned to get away from that by swinging early at stuff that looks good. That's not bad, but it's not what you want in the 2 hole with a premiere basestealer on 1st. I think it depends on the situations and I think Cedeno can handle those situations. Yes, at times he needs to work a count but he has to be able to get on base too.

It's pretty hard for Pierre to nab a bag when Dusty has Cedeno bunting almost every AB. true dat. it just reminds me of neifi batting in the 2 hole, fouling off pitch after pitch with pierre green lighted, looking to nab a bag. not cool. I really believe Ronny is a better choice to bat 2nd than Neifi...by a wide margin. :D The only guy that would be worse in the 2 hole than Neifi is Jones.

Uh no! No Gooz today please. I want our experienced quality bullpen people today. If they blow the lead at least do it with the best. Seconded But we used Williamson, Eyre and Howry yesterday to hold the -3 run lead. Sometimes you just have to use that pen with the same guys no matter what the score is. :-k Why....I don't have a clue. Well, it's now 7 to 0. I don't mind bringing in Guzman but coming in it was merely 4-0 I'd rather see the kid come in at the beginning of an inning then with the bases juiced.

New Busch is a great place to a watch a baseball game. I hope that today we actually play baseball, rather than the sad excuse for it that they have managed the previous two misery-filled days. In other news, don't waste time going up to the top of the Arch. Go up to the Sears Tower or Empire State Building instead. I take it you weren't near the foul pole?

Yes it does. If you reach on an error, you get charged an AB, 0 for 1. And for OBP it counts as a reached base safely. no it doesn't. Oops...my bad. Thanks guys, I figured that was the case but wanted to make sure. What about a WP strikeout?

You do realize that you have been talking to a HS coach, right? yeah I think he realizes that. He was just a pitcher that threw 175 pitches in one game and our high school coach left him in while he was, obviously, real tired. Our HS had a coach that really did not know much about the game of baseball as he tried telling pitchers other ways to throw while messing up their mechanics. He resigned a few games ago and the freshman baseball coach became the varisty coach. He coached a 41-1 loss with the freshman team and he somehow got promoted. needless to say, I think most HS coaches know what they are doing because they are in a somewhat high level of baseball. Unfortunately, for our school, the coaches that we have don't have a clue what is going on out there. I've seen some coaches without a clue win and I've seen some really good coaches lose 32-2 because they just don't have any talent. The thing most HS coaches don't know about is catching IMO with pitching a far second.

Maybe but do any of the Cub pitchers do a decent job of holding/picking off runners? I don't think they do.

why? b/c he can't hit the inside fastball the vast majority of the time. I thought it was a little more outside than the inside third part....maybe I was wrong.
